Calling all cats and their overworked slaves - join us as we grudgingly accept that every day is National Cat Day as far as our moggies are concerned.

So he’s only 12.5 but was born (we found out last year after trying pills and then injections and then an MRI at a specialist hospital) that he was born with a flat vertebrae in his neck!
So he’s on steroids morning and evening as last Christmas he lost the ability to walk and everyone thought that was it and it was cancer. There had been swelling in the vertebrae and it was squishing the spinal cord.
Neurologist said he had weeks or months left before the steroids stopped working so to have him last almost another year so far is just wonderful.
He is ridiculously loved and treasured and treated like a king and we’ve started on the solensia injections again as he also has arthritis. After those he has got a lot happier and has taken to climbing stairs to sleep on beds which makes me so so happy that he can do that again. Every minute is a gift with him now as we know the day will come too soon 💔

TheShellBeach · 02/11/2023 18:39

Oh LostCats I didn't know about that - I'm so glad you've had longer with Boone than you thought you'd get. It sounds like his quality of life is pretty good.

We have also found that Solensia has cheered Linney right up. He started on it just after Emerald died in July and he also now jumps on the bed and tries to tear holes in the duvet covers with his claws

Sympathies @RumNotRun .
l'm in the wars too, Nettie. I had a fall today, in wet shoes on my slippery drive. Young people fall over. Old people have a fall. I'm 55 now so that puts me in the "had a fall" category. Luckily just aches and pains and stiffness, which makes me feel even older!
Are you ok, Allergic? Still no meds?

Papergirl1968 · 02/11/2023 20:40

And I'm so sorry, Lost. It's so hard.
Sounds like he has a great quality of life at the moment though.

Are you okay@Papergirl1968 ?
As an Old Lady myself I sympathise.
Mind you I don't class 55 as old!
If 55 is old I am positively ancient.
Did you hurt yourself?

OP posts:
SequentialAnalyst · 02/11/2023 21:14

Ancient here as well. There comes a point when all the young things under 55s, who think you have one foot in the grave anyway, rush over if you fall over, and haul you back on your feet asap. When actually I want a moment or two, please, to get my breath back and check whether I have sustained any damage to my limbs. I live in a university town with uneven paving. They mean well, bless 'em.

A year or so ago, I fell down in Wimbledon - I later worked out that trainer soles are too thick for me to wear safely because if my balance starts to go (eg paving stone) they roll me over to the side, instead of keeping me upright, so were a major factor in the first placeConfused Anyway, this bloke rushes up, as I had half expected, and this time I asked for a minute to compose myself. He looked most affronted for a moment, and then I think the penny dropped. Anyway, he did help me up!

Papergirl1968 · 02/11/2023 21:18

Oh Poppy and Tilly are beauties.
No, I'm ok, thanks, Shell. Nothing broken. And thankfully I somehow kept hold of the dog's lead. I don't want ANOTHER visit from the police dangerous dog unit! We had one a couple of months back after she wriggled out of her harness and bit another dog. The harness and collar are on so tight now I'm surprised she can breath.

Papergirl1968 · 02/11/2023 21:20

Thank goodness no one saw me. If have been mortified. I struggled up myself, hanging on to the dog and next door's car!

Allergictoironing · 02/11/2023 21:28

@Papergirl1968 nope still no meds. Nationwide shortage still ongoing, and still trying to get sorted who will actually do my prescriptions. But I HAVE found a local GP who are at least open to the possibility of doing the Shared Care Agreement, so pursuing that with the hopeful result of changing GPs if they are happy with the proposals from Psychiatry UK.

Just so very, very tired though. I forgot just how much effort it can take to perform "normally" without meds, and the more tired I get the more my brain fuzzes so vicious circle there. Added to that, tiredness tends to make my physical aches & pains worse, which is tiring in itself and affects my sleep, so another vicious circle that interacts with the first. My boss is being fantastic though & very understanding, and though this is one of my 3 really busy times of the year she's agreed I can use some of my copious amounts of leave I have left to take at least 1 day off every week until it all gets sorted out. I luffs my boss!

I had the "everyone dashing over to help me up" thing when my chair slipped out from under me as I sat down at work the other week. You can't just haul me up though as I need to get the bloody arthritic back & hips in the right position first plus have an intermittently sulking shoulder so can't be hauled by that arm.

Papergirl1968 · 02/11/2023 21:41

That's both bad and good news then, Allergic.
There are shortages of so many meds at the moment.
Sorry you're feeling so rough but glad you have a fab boss who understands.

RumNotRun · 02/11/2023 21:53

I am not yet in the "had a fall" category but I do find myself faking injury if I trip in the hope that people will feel sorry for me rather than laugh!

Vixen sends her love to everyone going through a rough time, cats and humans alike.

That cute tongue!

SequentialAnalyst · 03/11/2023 03:49

@Allergictoironing your boss sounds great, and is making reasonable adjustments. To which, I believe, you are entitled, for your arthritis, and, now you have a diagnosis, your ADHD.

DISCLAIMER: EX:CAB, BUT JUST MY THOUGHTS, I HAVE NOT CHECKED.

Allergictoironing · 03/11/2023 06:14

@SequentialAnalyst Yep you're right there about reasonable adjustments. I had 1 defined for the arthritis, appropriate chair which luckily some of the standard office chairs fulfil. And 2 for the ADHD as standard; that I work mostly from the office not home, and that workmates tell me when I get too loud, talk too much, over share etc.

Helps that I work for Local Government, who tend to be great about such things, and also have a very understanding management chain - remember this was the team who gave me a day compassionate leave when I had to have Boycat PTS!

Cats getting very confused. My morning schedules are currently being determined by my bladder, as I can rarely get back to sleep once that need has woken me up. So I may get up any time between 5 am and 7:30 am. What confuses them even more is that the earlier I wake, the longer it takes for me to get going properly. So today woke just after 5 am, and at 545 Girlcat was sitting in the bedroom demanding to know why I hadn't come down. Tobias was just outside the room looking hopeful and confused at the same time.

Allergictoironing · 03/11/2023 06:17

In other news, just been watching BBC News about the trial of a crypto currency king in the USA. The reporter who'd been there all trial was reporting from inside her home, with her cat video bombing the report. The newscaster in the UK referred to the cat twice, once commenting that the cat would be very happy now she was home from watching the trial, and then including the cat in his goodbyes

Catsmere · 03/11/2023 06:19

So many adorable ofurlords!

Here are my two, Phoebe (reminding everyone she owns the coffee table) and Daisy (occupying her favourite place - me).

Over 55s here, both Mrs Grumpy and I have avoided 'having a fall' so far, my sympathy to those who have.
Felling particularly old though as I been asked (been 'volunteered') to read the names at Remembrance Sunday. If there is ever an old git function, this is it. No connection to the military, other than my parents both serving in WW2, but apparently 'I have the voice for it' 🤣
In cat news Basil refuses to leave anyone alone who has pudding. After I threw him off last night he attacked Mrs Grumpy's bowl.

Basil knows his rights!

Or in this case, lefts.

Grumpystripes · 03/11/2023 09:04

Our 6 month old kitten managed to get herself shut in the kitchen bin last night. We spent nearly an hour trying to find her. She was not happy and smelt terrible!

I always thought Grumpystripes was another nickname for TC 🤣. (As spotted this morning...)

The name is inspired by our older tabby cat. He is very put out at the annoying kittens wanting to play with him, particularly when he has a full time job protecting the garden from foxes, squirrels and deer!
