Calling all cats and their overworked slaves - join us as we grudgingly accept that every day is National Cat Day as far as our moggies are concerned.

Oh gosh.
I finally met up with my friend who directed the ill fated production of Whisky Galore!

I told her that Mr SB and I thought it was "amazing" (which we did - amazingly awful) and that seemed to be a good way of being tactful.

@TheShellBeach Ive always liked the suggested line in a Jilly Cooper novel where a conductor tells a soloist after a very bad concert “magnificent is not the word”

DS1 is playing in an opera in London at the moment and I'm going tomorrow night
I'm looking forward to using your line regardless 🤣.

Which opera?
And is he in an established orchestra?

I'm afraid it would be completely outing to mention it. It's a bit niche 🤣.

TheShellBeach · 08/11/2023 19:49

I was foolish enough to buy 100 "Anglo Bubbly" from Amazon, and they arrived today.

I've lost count of the number I've eaten already. Mr SB reckons they'll damage my stomach but they haven't so far.

Just phoned by the vet with Sybil's blood results.
Thyroid and Kidneys are both fine.
The vet is not too worried but there are slight hints of dehydration and possible absorption problems so a urine check required and another weigh in in 3 months.

LostCats · 08/11/2023 20:13

That sounds like relatively good news?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/11/2023 20:20

@LostCats
Assuming you are talking about Sybil not Shell and her Anglo Bubblies 🤣.

Yes - thank you it does sound quite good news - hopefully she won't lose any more weight.

LostCats · 08/11/2023 20:31

🤣🤣🤣 yes Sybil

Shell - we’ll check on you in the morning!

Shady boots decided my lap is acceptable for a brief moment

I'm not used to this having a young cat Grin it's like having a toddler, I'm constantly "what are you eating/doing/chewing/why"

I registered him at a different vet (they take direct insurance payments and are closer) and she was "sorry SIX KG? We have him as a short hair? Is he not Maine coon"
Shady "I just big, not fluffy"

Hey Grumpy I'm glad Sybil's tests were good.

That's a relief.

Glad to hear the news about Lady Sybil.

I haven't heard of Anglo bubblys Shell, I may have to do some investigating now.

I cooked a rather lovely Persian Chicken with barberry rice earlier. Frankenstein kept trying to steal some, I swear the more international the cuisine the more interested he is in it. He has obviously forgiven me for not sharing as I'm having a very rare cwtch from him (and Ghostie and Toad) with Raven looking on in disgust.

Shady!!! I was thinking we hadn't heard from you both for a while.

Mr SB has given the bowl of Anglo Bubblies to Linney, so that he can guard them

I had to google Anglo Bubblies. I hope you're not swallowing them. As kids we were always told horror stories of people who swallowed bubble gum and consequently we lived in terror of it. Not that I liked it much anyway, especially when the flavour went. And I was useless at blowing bubbles!
That's good news about Sybil, Grumpy.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 08/11/2023 23:18

Good news re Sybil! Kidney issues are one of the most serious causes of weight loss so it’s really good to have that one crossed off. I’ve never heard of a cat being put in a bag before but if it does the trick, why not? I suppose the phrase “the cat’s out of the bag” had to come from somewhere.

Six kg is a huge cat! Sorry, I’m not sure it was the same post but young cats are a handful. If Velvet isn’t being amused or sleeping on the bed or sofa she’s getting her nose into absolutely everything, attacking inanimate objects (she tried to kidnap my DM’s handbag which is bigger than she is and randomly picked a fight with the stairs and an armchair today!) She’s also trying the drinking water throughout the house, just today she’s sampled water from my glass, running water from the tap and seriously considered a large puddle after my walk-in shower.

nettie434 · 09/11/2023 07:35

Good news about Sybil. I don't remember the name Anglo Bubbly but I definitely remember bubble gum and trying to blow bubbles as big as possible. Like Papergirl1968, we were warned of the dangers of swallowing bubble gum. It was presented as being only a tiny bit safer than swallowing a rod of plutonium! Let's hope Linney has saved Shell from the any dangers from Anglo Bubblies!

It was lovely to see Shady looking so well.

Catsmere · 09/11/2023 08:24

I had a nice surprise this evening - new care worker visited, who's 1) a cat person, which is rare, and 2) whose kitty looks just like my late Madeleine, a beautiful torbie!

So were we, but I never quite knew why
I've just googled it and discovered that swallowing loads can lead to an intestinal obstruction.

Oops.

I think it's only mums who spread that rumour. I remember being told as a child that swallowing a single piece of gum would almost certainly kill you by wrapping itself round your intestines, or heart, or brain, or something like that. So it must be true 🤣🤣🤣.
Anyway - very pleased that you made it through the night Shell 👍

LostCats · 09/11/2023 09:07

Hee hee Shell!

ahh that’s so nice Catsmere!!

LostCats · 09/11/2023 09:08

I remember (I’m forrin’) when I was a child, if you were caught with gum at school, the teachers were allowed to put it in your hair!
That wouldn’t be allowed now I think…
