Is my cat waiting to die?

My cat has been acting strangely for a few days. After some (very expensive) tests the vet could find nothing wrong. He's an outdoor cat so I let him go in the garden and he is sitting in a bush near the house hardly moving and has been there since 9am. He is alive but hasn't eaten since this morning. What is he doing? He used to be super sociable and needy plus constantly begging for food and now is just refusing to interact. Has anyone has a cat do this? Were they ok?

Very sorry about your cat OP. I'm afraid I'd tend to assume that he's either in pain or is 'losing it'. How old is he?

OnAFrolicOfMyOwn · 04/10/2023 19:00

How old is he? My girl did this, but we already knew she had a tumour, and this behaviour was her signal to us that it was time to let her go.

He's only 11. Been to the vet, been x-rayed , blood tests, neurological exam, full check up and everything is normal.

I'm starting to wonder if the other cat and he had a fight and he has been banished from the house.

How is he doing?

LostCats · 05/10/2023 23:37

Ooh. I wonder if there has been a fight and he’s banished. Do you have Feliway Friends?

Bleepbloopbluurp · 06/10/2023 06:43

He's ok, thanks for checking.

I think maybe this is all just politics. We have given him a cat carrier to sleep in (only one angle of attack and he seems happy in there) and his sister has taken to hissing at it.

So I have a more food and water bowls coming so they don't need to eat in the same room, plus feliway, and one of those towers so one cat can go up high if the other is threatening.

If this is the fallout for a fight, he really is very dramatic. And I really need to get pet insurance!

My Bengal sulked after fights if he didn’t win them. Egos are easily bruised.

FuzzyPuffling · 06/10/2023 14:12

My cat is currently sulking because I out the flea drops on her last night. Normally she follows me around demanding my full attention - today she clearly hates me.

Bleepbloopbluurp · 06/10/2023 17:11

Yeah, a day or two of sulking I can understand, but this was four days of acting entirely out of sorts and running away from us or hiding in bushes and not eating or drinking (when he is usually a gannet) , so much so the vet was quite concerned by my depressed and dehydrated cat. He's mostly back to normal now, but if he even passes his sister she starts hissing and is very unhappy. She is also rubbing her head on absolutely everything and everyone to mark her turf. It's a war!
