How do you get worn treatments in when they only eat dry food?

I used to give my boy worm treatment in his wet food - would just crush it up & mix in a little.

Now he wont eat wet food & I have no idea how to get it in.

Any tips or suggestions?

You can buy spot on wormers. I use these even though my cats eat wet food because it's easier.

If they like lick e lix cat treats, that's another good way to hide medicine, although some of mine were far too good of licking up the lick e lix and leaving the tablet particles behind, so only really good for liquid medicine.

Will he eat 'luxury' wet food? Mine won't eat normal wet food but they'll eat 'gourmet' pouches if I need to crush pills for them.

These are what I give mine - they stink to high heaven!

We just put the tablet in with a small amount of dry food and our cat eats it with no problem. Try to wait until they are hungry though.

Spot on or Lik E Lix

AnnaMagnani · 28/09/2023 09:18

Use a spot on or wrap it in a treat like a cat stick.

margotrose · 28/09/2023 11:33

Spot ons, or just make them take the pill - one person wraps the cat in a towel and holds them while the other forces open the mouth and pushes the tablet in, then hold the mouth shut and rub their throat to make them swallow.

All mine can take tablets now just by sitting and eating them.

You can get some stuff on Amazon called something like pill putty. It’s like plasticine and you wrap a little bit around the pill. I hand feed my cat a couple of Dreamies, then the covered pill, and then a couple more Dreamies and she can’t tell them difference.

Somanycats · 28/09/2023 12:13

Spot on, so much less stressful

Helenahandkart · 28/09/2023 12:15

My cat goes insane if we try to use a spot on treatment. It takes two people, one of us wearing protective gauntlets, to administer her flea treatment. We’ve tried the towel wrapping option with very little success.
Pill putty is super easy.

Surely this is the method ,,,

Spot ons are a nightmare with my two, I have developed the knack of getting hold of them either on the kitchen counter or when they are sleepy on a sofa or bed, poke the side of their mouth till it opens, throw the tablet in and keep their chin lifted with your finger till they have swallowed it. Takes a bit of practice but far easier than spot-ons.

EquallyDetermined · 28/09/2023 12:26

We have flea treatment by injection, no spot-ons tolerated at all here.

RoséProsecco · 28/09/2023 13:05

So many helpful suggestions, thank you!

I'll start with the luxury cat food & hope that's enough to get it in.

When I had a cat I used Verm-X natural crunchies as wormer. She loved them

FionaJT · 28/09/2023 13:26

I hid them in various treats, used pill putty, a pill shooter - everything worked the first time I tried it but my cat learns quickly and nothing worked twice! Now use a spot on, which he doesn't like but is doable if I'm quick.

Ooh, do they work? I've always thought that they're missing a trick by not making medicine into Dreamies not pills and they seem to be exactly that.

Stressybetty · 28/09/2023 14:45

Think they work, seem to be a natural alternative containing wormwood for parasite control and gut health. Amazon reviews are good as well. I didn't have the cat for long enough to tell!

MonumentalLentil · 28/09/2023 18:15

I also use a spot on.
