How long per day to put a kitten in their own room

My new kitten (12 weeks) has the utility room as pretty much her own room. She has the litter tray, food, bed, toys etc and she is kept in there at night. She is unlikely to come to much harm in there as there's not much she can climb up and it's all secure. We have been letting her play in a couple of other rooms of the house during the day but I put her in there if I need to go elsewhere in the house or if I think she needs a break from the kids. However I'll need to confine her for longer periods such as going shopping and running errands. How long per day do you think she can stay in this small but safe/has everything she needs room?

To be honest I have never confined mine, at night yes when first brought home. I also made sure the toilet lid was also down just in case....

So I confine her because there's things we don't want her doing that we need to keep an eye on like climbing up onto the table. So I'd rather we were supervising while she's out of her room so that we can stop her doing these things in the hope that she will give up trying! It's not usually an issue as we spend most of the day in the areas she's in. But I do need to do other things!

I confined mine while we were out for 6 hours at a time initially - because we have older cats and I didn't want them mixing without being supervised.

But that only lasted a few weeks and from about 12 weeks he had the run of the house like the others. We just made sure to kitten-proof everything first.

As for the table - well, cats will climb. That's natural and you aren't going to stop it by restricting her access to it Grin
