I buy it online but have always needed a vet prescription.

My vets are happy to email me the prescription, which makes it easier. Not sure whether that is because I take the cats for a yearly check anyway though

No, it's prescription only.

You can buy Advantage which has the same active ingredient (imidacloprid) for killing fleas, online without a prescription. It doesn’t contain the moxidectin for parasites though.
