I'm being deliberately matter of fact here, because its emotive, obviously. Cat has terminal cancer and is on palliative pathway. Any experiences anyone care share? Cat is not distressed, but losing weight fast

This happened to my cat, Zazzles 4 years ago.
We just loved him, fed him his favourite foods and stayed with him.
We got around 4 weeks with him.
He's still very much missed.
I'm so sorry you're going through the same thing.

Thank you. 4 weeks after diagnosis. This is partly what I am wondering, Of course I can't be given a definite answer of how long. We intend to pts as soon as cat shows any sign of distress, but we are not there yet.

Hi. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this - have been there twice myself and am now giving palliative care to my oldie who has a tumour on her face. It's heartbreaking.

You will know when it's time as your kitty will stop being interested in food, lying flat a lot and their "sparkle" will go. You will know. I've heard it said that a day too early is so much better than an hour too late.

Another rule of thumb is think of 5 things your kitty loves to do - when they are only doing 2 of them then it may be time to let go.

Give them cuddles, treats, more cuddles. Take care

That's exactly what I did, had him PTS as soon as he showed signs of pain.
I had a thread on here under an old name, I'll see if I can find it.
Zazzy had mouth cancer, the vet advised not to try treating it, as the outcome even at best wasn't great.
I still have his Mum and sister, plus another cat! I adore my wee fluffits ❤️

You'll know when it's time @Market1

I remember sitting with my poorly boy, I couldn't work out what to do. He didn't seem to be in pain or distress but you can never be truly sure. He jumped on my lap and gave me a nudge. It was like he was saying.. Come on, it's time. I'm ready.

Just love him, cuddle him.

I am so so sorry x

This 5 things rule of thumb is a really good tool, thank you.

Yes. Going to get bloods done. But I suspect she's got some sort of cancer.

Mycatiscrazy · 05/08/2023 15:02

Sending lots of love, our cat had suspected lymphoma in his stomach and the vet suspected it had spread to his brain as he started having fits. He wasn't a good candidate for chemo and when his quality of life dropped we made the choice to say goodbye.
He was spending most of his time in his cat bed but he was frequently vomiting, soiling himself and he frequently forget he'd eaten and just cry for more then not want it.
He'd lost his sparkle and had more bad days then good days, we couldn't let him suffer, he passed knowing we loved him and that was the only thing I could do for him.

@Market1 how is your cat doing?

Unicorn34 · 10/08/2023 22:31

I lost my beautiful old cat Millie tonight. It was her 18th birthday. Our wonderful vet came to our home and it was peaceful. Going to miss her so much

LouisCatorze · 12/08/2023 10:05
