I am at the vets with my old, now ill cat and very sad

She is nearly15 and has been a fantastic pet. Recently loosing weight but eating fine, very happy. The last couple of days she has been breathing fast, her tummy is going up and down, last night was panting, restless. Gone off food, struggling to walk this morning. Vet has managed to fit her in as an emergency. We've agreed not to keep her alive longer than is kind. My poor lovely cat.

So sorry - it's awful when they get old and ill. She's a grand old age, though, so you've obviously loved her and looked after her really well.

I am so sorry. It’s the price we pay for loving them but it doesn’t really make it easier.

I’m so sorry, it’s the worst part of having a pet.

I’ve been there a few times. But, it’s an act of kindness to give them a gentle exit from their discomfort. Heartbreaking, though.

She died while I was there with her. They put her into an oxygen tent to make her comfortable but the stress of the five minute drive and being in the vets probably speed it up. But I think she would have died slowly at home anyway. But up until the last couple of days she has been happy and active.

We got her from a shelter after she was found in a bin with her kittens at about a year old. She has had a lovely life and her last little meal was some creamy milk and some of that chicken flavoured cat yoghurt.

So sorry for your loss 💐thank you for giving her a lovely happy life. Be kind to yourself and take some time to relax ❤

Thank you everyone. Going to have to tell the children in a bit. They are 8 and 6 so could be really upset, could be totally not bothered. I am definitely going to have one of them asking if we can have a hamster now though, I am ready for that!

I'm so sorry. That's heartbreaking. When I lost my beloved cat I got so much comfort from the fact we gave her a happy life full of love.

She sounds like a lovely much loved sweetheart.
She was loved and cared for the whole way though and lived a wonderful pussy cat life.
