When DH and I are ready for the patter of tiny paw we are thinking of a BSH. From what I've read about them their temperament would be perfect for us (although I know temperament isn't guaranteed!) and they would be suited to our cat proofed garden. I've done a lot of reading about them but need some real life stories. And pictures of course!

St Francis Persian rescue has a few up for rehoming.

My ex’s parents had 2, no pictures unfortunately. One was grey and the other I’d describe as silver tabby. They are bigger and chunkier than other cats. These two were friendly, but wouldn’t sit on knees or climb on you as the breeders would only let them go at 12 weeks so they were quite old, as I understand it.

I don’t personally have any but one of my friends has 6 of them and I’m on cat sitting duties at the moment! They’re completely different personalities and sizes, but they are all very playful and affectionate. Almost dog like in some ways - I was playing fetch with the youngest one this morning and she’s better at it than my dog 😆 I really like them as a breed.

Sorry, if they were mine I’d happily post some pictures but don’t feel it’s appropriate without her permission.

I have had two, though sadly no more. They are lovely, lovely cats, not known as a breed as cuddly lap-cats, but they will come and sit next to you.

RaraRachael · 24/07/2023 10:42

I've had 3 now and all had nice temperaments - one was a tortie, one silver tabby and the current occupant is a big, sweet ginger and white boy. I got all of them from CP and none have so far had any health issues at all.
Sorry I'm a dunce with technology so can't attach pics.

My son has one he got as an 8 month indoor cat. As soon as he was done he wanted to go out and now drags pigeons through the cat flap..

So don't believe the . ...... Indoor lazy laud back cat narrative. Actually he is laid back but is a hunting machine

Cute as heck though with a lovely ciat

The only one I know is an absolutely petrified rescue who spends most of her life in hiding 😞

She is absolutely stunning though!

Both my girls were hunters. Scenes from a horror movie during baby bird season.

My friend had one and it was stolen within a couple of weeks of going outside.

Saxendi · 24/07/2023 11:52

I've had a couple first one was out all the time a lovely natured cat, very friendly.
Other one has chosen to be an indoor cat also an affectionate cat, sits on knees.

We’ve got two, a blue and a lilac. They are both nosy and follow you round the house to see what you’re up to. Don’t sit on knees but sit close. Or sit opposite for a better view. Very playful - our 5yo acts like a kitten and they both actually use the toys we buy rather than the box they came in

I wasn’t prepared for the amount they eat and the amount of fur they produce. The furminator gets good use

I've seen them and they are gorgeous but it's not quite the right time at the moment, I'm just admiring them and doing my research!

I'm getting a bit worried about the hunting, although the garden is cat proofed and we do nothing to encourage birds in.

@NancyJoan I'm not worried whether they are lap cats or not. Harry was always a lap cat in training and never sat on my lap for the 15 years we had him! I probably wouldn't know what to do if a cat sat on my lap!

@Saxendi what a gorgeous cat!

I have three - a blue boy and two Lilac girls. They are a lovely well natured breed and I love having them. They are all indoor cats and have never shown any interest in going outside (the boy is too stupid to be fair). The girls tend to be cleverly and generally the breed is very friendly.

I’ve also had a cream boy (big bag of neurosis) who was very friendly to ‘his’ people, visiting family were not welcomed. I also had a blue girl who had bags of personality

eurochick · 24/07/2023 14:27

We have two lilac sisters. They are gorgeous and have never raised a paw in anger but are quite skittish and dive under the cooker if we have a knock at the door. They are not lap cats but will have strokes on their terms. Usually by doing something really awkward like jumping onto the back of the sofa so you can't reach them without contorting yourself and miaowing for attention.

Ps the fur. Omg the fur.
