Hi

Please don't think I'm mad but I lost my fur baby a few weeks ago and I miss him like crazy . I was in the garden going toward the she and I swear I saw him lying in the lawn out of the corner of my eye . Obviously the pain of losing him is still raw and maybe my mind is playing tricks ? It shook me tbh but in a nice way . Has anyone else experienced this ?

mine woke me up by pushing his nose in my face, so yes I believe they come back tomorrow show us they’re okay x

Fannieannie63 · 23/07/2023 15:06

Not tomorrow but to show us

Pinkbonbon · 23/07/2023 15:09

I think its quite a common occurance, especially shortly after they've passed. Of course it could be our brains playing tricks but I like to think its them visiting to comfort us.

I always remember a dream at a time where I was feeling particularly down, where I was my back garden - and all these little lights were jumping and skipping about and they then turned into all the rabbits I'd grew up with in my childhood. And I was just so happy to see them. One was missing... but there was a feeling of knowing it was because he'd 'gone on'. Perhaps to be of comfort to some other little girl.

There's also a cat that visits me every day atm and I've picked up one of those 'animal communication' books lately. Can't say I've had much success but on 2 occasions where I've had difficult days, it felt like she was saying 'I'm here to cheer you up'. As if I'd heard her say the words. The book does talk about vibrations ect...so maybe in certain moods, your vibration changes or something and its easier to communicate. All very 'woo' of course. But who knows.

Sounds like he popped by to comfort you. It seems like the sort of thing they would do.

Starlitexpress · 23/07/2023 15:13

I kept seeing mine at the top of the stairs, broke down and told dh, who then revealed he was also seeing her at the top of the stairs.

It's been 10 years and I still miss her.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/07/2023 15:14

Well, yes, I've caught sight of something dark and sausage shaped out of the corner of my eye and thought for a moment it was my old dog. But that used to happen pretty often while he was alive too!

I think it's because our brains do short-cut pattern recognition, and our dear old pets are so imprinted on our brains that we're likely to interpret shapes or sounds accordingly.

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 23/07/2023 15:52

What Errol said. You are used to seeing your cat and are very distressed and thinking of your cat a lot, so your brain fills in what it expects to see. It's perfectly normal to experience this.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 23/07/2023 15:57

Dh used to see ours on the windowsill. We both heard him scratching at doors, miaowing & jumping off the windowsill.

HappyMe6 · 23/07/2023 15:58

Yes I’ve seen two of my cats shown to me few months after they passed shown as a black shadow running up the stairs, different times I’ve heard a lapping of water and been lying in bed and fully awake but in darkness and felt the covers move as if something had jumped up, I don’t care what anyone thinks I know what I saw and felt, I’m psychic anyway

PollyCreo · 23/07/2023 16:23

Two months after my beloved Alfi died I clearly heard footsteps running up the stairs. I was sitting in bed with dcat2 and he heard them too, he sat up and looked towards the bedroom door. It was weird but very comforting at the same time, she was always a very demanding difficult cat and it was her way of letting me know she was still around 🙀

Duckingella · 23/07/2023 16:27

I heard the tapping of my dogs claws on the hallway floor one night after he died and with one of my other dogs the sound of him turning over in his sleep downstairs in the night also after he passed.

In my in-laws house they both saw a rabbit hopping down the hallway that would then disappear;they are both the most sensible people you've ever met so not prone to flights of fancy.

Allergictoironing · 23/07/2023 19:14

Boycat still jumps on my bed some mornings, nearly 6 months after he was PTS.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 23/07/2023 21:50

We lost our girl suddenly in May and I still see her in favourite sleeping spots ❤️

ThankGodImAnAtheist · 24/07/2023 10:07

This used to happen to me a lot when our cat was alive … my side vision would pick up a slight movement, or a shape such as a shoe, and my brain would translate that into an image of the cat but a few seconds later would realise it wasn’t. It’s just the way our brains work … saves time by putting together the most likely image we should be seeing, and corrects itself when it gets more detail. I think we notice it more if the false image is of something really important to us like a recently deceased cat. It started happening to me even more since she passed recently, and it was very painful initially, but now I’m glad of it as I like being reminded of her.

MonumentalLentil · 27/07/2023 19:19

It has happened to me with several pets. First one I used to see out of the corner of my eye, he would just be there, and as soon as I noticed - gone. This continued until I adopted another pet and then I never saw him again.

One that wasn't mine, different house a cat used to sleep under the washing thingy in the garden, I used to see him/her from the windows. Also would run in front of me in the kitchen, I would stop suddenly before realising it wasn't one of mine and it just vanished. One day a man came round who had lived in the house as a child, it seemed to have been his cat.

Next one, saw him walking past the door of the room I was in, clear as day. Also felt my bed move as if he had jumped up.

Next one, saw her at the food bowl, and later walking towards her bed.

Next one was very outdoorsy, he would be sitting in the garden looking at the house, in his old spot.

Next one was not mine. I had taken a stray to a sanctuary during lockdown and he had stayed there until I could get him back. One day I saw a cat in the hall that I didn't recognise. Followed by a message regarding the stray saying that someone (friend) had lost one of their cats and could they adopt him. The cat that had passed on was identical to the one I saw.

They do come back to see you.

I still see my ginger baby that I lost to FELV 3 years ago. It’s comforting.

Pudmyboy · 29/07/2023 17:47

I felt a cat jump on my bed, long before I got my little love. Only difference was the 'ghost cat' was much lighter but the pattern of movement was the same.
I have told my little love he must haunt me, when it is his time (he is now old and becoming frail), I can't bear to think that once he has gone, that will be it.

I keep asking my darling girl to visit me, she has visited me in dream form a few nights ago and we just cuddled each other, she snuggled into my neck like she used to, I so wish it was real, I miss her desperately.

CindersAgain · 29/07/2023 20:20

We’ve always had dark cats and o would see them for months/years wherever there was a pair of shoes or cardigan left in a heap.

Dombasle · 29/07/2023 20:31

When I was 15 I was riding my bicycle home and we had a very long drive, like a country road and fields either side.

Our old mare saw me and cantered alongside me in the field before turning and cantering away.

When I got indoors my mother was crying and our mare had been put to sleep earlier that day after collapsing and was in her stable and her body would be collected the next day.

I know I saw her cantering alongside me.

purser25 · 29/07/2023 21:37

Mine jumped up next to me on the bed like it always did. A friends cat crawled up the duvet like it always did.

ladyvivienne · 29/07/2023 21:40

My amazing boy has jumped on the bed twice since he's died. Very comforting. Miss him so much, he's been gone 3 years now and I can still cry easily about him (run over by a speeding twat)

I would definitely like to think that they want us to know that they're ok.

Yusay · 29/07/2023 23:09

I was away from home when I saw my cat out of the corner of my eye. A few minutes later came the phone call that she was dead.

This, and other experiences with dying cats, have really changed how I view death. Something lingers for a while after death, it just does, and it doesn’t seem so impossible that the something can flicker through the dreams of loved ones and their peripheral vision.

Buddhists have some interesting ideas about how the soul wanders in a very powerful inbetween state for a few weeks before reincarnating.

UPDATE

My hb says he saw the cat in a very vivid dream . In the dream he opened the bs k door first thing in the morning and the cat was sat there . The cat stood up , walked toward the shed and vanished. My hb said he felt very comforted by the dream , it was as if the cat had come to say goodbye x

My boy, very special lad, after he went I was in that state of not being awake or asleep, kind of meditative and I saw him in a tunnel or a vehicle/train, he was going away from me. However he hadn't gone for long as he came back and that's when I saw him in the hall.

Similar with another boy, he had been very ill and I had taken him in until the end. I saw him walking along a path with grass either side and bushes to the left. He was going away too. Next time I saw him he was in the garden, where he used to sit.
