Cat won't come out of her basket.

Any idea what might be wrong with my cat? She's 14. The last two days she just lies in her basket and won't be coaxed out. She lifts her head but that's all. At the start of the weak she was still jumping on my bed to snuggle. A vet appointment has been made but I couldn't find one before tomorrow.

Oh goodness. So has she not been to the loo? Is she eating or drinking? If not, I'd get some nice chicken and handfeed. Poaching it is usually good for sick kitties. You can use a medicine syringe to give her some water.

If she hasn't eaten drank or pooped in 2 days, I'd ring the vet back and make sure they let you know of any cancellations today if that's an option? And make sure the vet is clear on eating, drinking and toileting if they're all absent. That would concern me.

Sounds like she could be quite unwell. Cats are notorious for hiding their ailments (so they don't look weak to prey/other cats I think), so for there to be notable signs is definitely a serious sign I think.

Is she purring at all!? Happy for company. Sending kitty love. 🐾

There's something in the litter box, so I think she's got up at some point. She has eaten today. Not much, but something. I'm in a different time zone and the appointment is in less than 24 hours. I'm on the cancellation list. She doesn't seem to be in pain. She's not young but this is quite sudden. I heard a little purring this morning. I might call the emergency vet and see if there's any chance of being seen in the next few hours but it's so hard to get a vet these days. I'm lucky to get the appointment I did.

At least you're on top of it. How is she now? 😺. Keep trying with the food and water xx

ChocBananaSmoothie · 29/06/2023 22:50

She was a bit more vocal this morning, so hopefully that's a good sign. She's eaten and used the litter tray. Off to the vet in a couple of hours. She does have a heart murmur. At her age blood tests might not be a bad idea, but we'll see what the vet says.

All good signs. Hoping kitty is OK. I've two of them, they steal your heart.

ChocBananaSmoothie · 30/06/2023 03:30

Her heart is beating strangely and she's lost a lot of weight. Waiting on blood tests now.

Hoping for positive news today. ♥️

ChocBananaSmoothie · 01/07/2023 00:38

Still waiting on most blood tests but she is very anemic. She seems a bit more alert today anyway.

Awww at least you're on the road to answers. Is she eating ok?

ChocBananaSmoothie · 01/07/2023 05:44

Eating less but is eating.

Just thought I'd nip in to see how kitty is

ChocBananaSmoothie · 03/07/2023 08:46

Should hear in the next two days if the blood tests show anything. She's just been sleeping today.

Could you get the kitty tuna? It's got a very strong smell so cats like that. When my old kitty was poorly that was all he'd eat and he'd never been a fussy eater but the vet told me to try tuna as it had a strong smell and it worked.

She did gain 100g the last few days, so that's something. :-) The cat doesn't eat tuna. She is the fussiest eater on the planet when it comes to cats, I think. lol

So the vet says it might just be a passing virus. Or it could be very serious and has suggested thousands worth of tests. I can't do those at the moment so we're taking the wait and see approach.

How is your kitty doing? Everything crossed for an improvement 🤞🙏🤞

MyEyesAreBleeding · 06/07/2023 21:08

We've got a 14yr old lady so I understand. Just keep an eye on her, sending good kitty vibes 🐾

ChocBananaSmoothie · 06/07/2023 22:22

She's still the same. Did jump on the bench last night and was meowing for food this morning, so hopefully those are good signs. Still just sleeping in the same spot all day though. As long as she still seems comfortable I'll follow up with the vet in a couple of weeks, I think. The vet wants to do so much but I'll have to talk to them about which is most likely to be helpful (like additional tests, imaging) because there is no way I'm able to do everything he wants.

Is she doing better?

ChocBananaSmoothie · 11/07/2023 09:44

She's gone outside by choice the last couple of days and seems to be doing better. Still have to check what her weight is doing but I'm feeling optimistic. I really thought we might have been at the end there for a bit.

awww that's good news. Glad to hear. You know her well enough to keep an eye on her behaviours and stuff. You know what to look out for

pottersbar · 07/07/2024 08:02

Hi @ChocBananaSmoothie I wondered how your cat is doing? Our cat has spent the night overnight at the vets and is on a drip because of anemia. He has also suggested blood transfusions and all sorts but we have maxed out the insurance money for now so need to see what happens. I do hope your cat is well.
