Cat won’t use the litter tray if he is disturbed

He’s had a few urinary issues (he’s 14), and ultrasound scans keep saying he has struvite “sand” in his bladder which never seems to get any better(or worse). Recently he’s been pooping and sometimes peeing as well on the sofa.

The other cat hassles him when he goes to use his box (if I catch her, I squirt her with water) and the other day, DH went into the cats’ bathroom when he was in his box, and he ran out and peed on the sofa. Obviously I want to stop this, but how do I get him to love his box again. He is a very timid cat and scared of his own shadow. The bullying from the younger cat is new. They’ve never been friends, but have rubbed along OK (will sit together on the bed). He has also peed on the bed occasionally, usually when we go away and the cat sitter comes to look after them.

I don’t know why relations between the cats has deteriorated recently. If she waves her paw at him he usually runs off, but the other day he had had enough and whacked her (he’s twice as big as she is, at least) and she fell off the bed. Right now they are next to me on the bed, next to each other but not touching. He’s asleep on his back with his paws in the air(which would indicate that he’s quite relaxed?) and she’s curled up neatly, washing her paws.
