I rescued a 1 year old cat 4 weeks ago
Totally unaware she was even pregnant
I walked into living room and a kitten was on the floor.
It wasn't alive and was tiny
Took them both to the vets straight away in a panic and the vet said she was pregnant with 3 more kittens.
1 was born with a limb missing and not alive the other two were born and the vet didn't think they would survive and only way was to hand rear at vet for a chance.
I agreed and took my girl home.
She's only 1 and since then she's been sleeping constantly.
She's had food and drinking and going to toilet as normal but she's so tired.
Also when she's falling asleep she's twitching a little but only when falling asleep.
When she's awake no shaking or twitching

I'm so worried for her
I love her so much
Is it normal for her to be so tired?
I've booked her in to be neutered in a month (she's a house cat anyway )
Not sure how she got pregnant with previous owners
She has no temperature /no discharge/breathing fine

She's also very clingy
I can't move or she follows me

The vet said they were born premature

Just keep an eye on her and stay close. She’s been through a lot and will need her rest, but should better by tomorrow. I’m so glad you’re having her spayed.

This all happened on Wednesday evening

Op I've asked for this to be moved to the litter tray as you'll get more traffic there x

ohdaysb · 10/06/2023 15:28

Oh Thankyou stupidly didn't even realise that was a thing

When you say a rescue cat…. What do you mean? From a rescue centre or off the street?

ohdaysb · 10/06/2023 15:38

No I got her from someone I know
They were moving and looking for a new home for her as they were moving abroad

OP posts:
Rightiothen13 · 10/06/2023 15:40

Yes I thought so.

do you have any papers for her at all?
You say she’s a house cat, but clearly not

ohdaysb · 10/06/2023 15:42

Having spoke with family I got her from they told me she escaped 6 ish weeks ago and they couldn't find her for a few hours
She's deffo a house cat -she wouldn't survive outside
She's so sweet and follows me everywhere

Oh Op, just have been such a shock for you to walk in and find the poor dead kitten.
Shame that another died too. Fingers crossed for the surviving kittens. Keep us posted x

Well there’s your reason why it happened 😐

Gone 6 hours and they found her?

Rightiothen13 · 10/06/2023 15:45

Or rather gone a few hours
impressed they managed to find her
and thoughtless of them not to tell you this before handing her over

Rightiothen13 · 10/06/2023 15:45

Do you have any previous cat ownership experience

ohdaysb · 10/06/2023 15:46

I have had other cats but none female and none pregnant /gave birth etc
Only ever owned male cats

The OP is here asking for advice about something that isn't her fault at all.

Why can't people answer the question and take a day off from judging?

I'm rooting for you and your cats OP. I have no good advice but offering support until you get more knowledgeable posters and less judgement

Zarataralara · 10/06/2023 15:48

She’s not feeding any kittens? Is she producing milk? She+may need extra calcium as animals feeding young can experience eclampsia, a sudden drop in calcium that can be serious.
Many year old cats have kittens, my friend has a cat ( now 11/12) who gave birth at 11 months, family wanted to keep the kittens didn’t want to keep her……. Be careful handling her, we think friend’s cat was possibly carried, lifted etc by the family’s children after she gave birth and possibly sore from feeding, never been able to pick her up since she’s had her which was soon after the kits were weened.
Small meals often, make sure she has water and I’m sure she’ll make a good recovery.

TheShellBeach · 10/06/2023 15:52

Is she producing milk?
Has the vet advised on this?
Poor you, and poor puss.
What a shock you must have got.

ohdaysb · 10/06/2023 15:55

She isn't feeding any cats no
They are swollen

OP posts:
ohdaysb · 10/06/2023 15:55

I read eggshells grinded can be good for calcium
Is this recommended ?

OP posts:
ohdaysb · 10/06/2023 15:57

I looked at the signs of eclampsia and I don't think it's that
No panting ,no pacing etc she's just exhausted

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 10/06/2023 16:00

I wondered about eclampsia too.
Maybe you should ring the vet for advice about this.
Poor puss. She'll be wondering where her babies are.

Youngatheart00 · 10/06/2023 16:03

The poor thing (and poor you)

do you know how the remaining kitten is doing? Give her lots of fuss and love and reassurance but if you’re in any doubt call the vet and ask for advice.

fuckmyuteruslining · 10/06/2023 16:18

She'd be best with a kitten to nurse really but sounds like they are too wee. It wouldn't hurt to get her checked again. Poor puss cat. Even a house cat should have been spayed for exactly this reason.

fuckmyuteruslining · 10/06/2023 16:20

(And I know you know that op, it's her previous owners who let her down)
