Price of medicine

My cat is on medicine for a chronic condition.
And has been for just under a year and a half.
In that time the medicine has gone up 3 times (!!!)
I just was not expecting this
It's gone from £86 to about £92 to just under £100 to now just over £100!
I'm getting increasingly worried for the future
Is it the same for everyone?
(Please don't make this into a discussion about insurance)

Have you googled the medicine to see if you can get it cheaper? You still have to pay for the vet to write a prescription for you to collect but you can get some things cheaper.

Veterinary medicines go up in price every November and every February - don't why they do two increases a year or why all the pharmaceutical companies do it at the same time.

I have today and it is a lot cheaper.
When you factor in the prescription cost you'd have to pay for and the vet would want to do a check up as well which is the consultation fee and taxi price there and back, it's not reduced as much as you'd hope.
At the minute the vet has been ok without the three month check up so I've not had to pay that but obviously he's been giving the prescription to me each time.

Thank you that's interesting to know I didn't know this.
So this is for every vet medicine across the board?

(Although even since my last prescription charge in April this has gone up)

I know you say the vet would want a consultation etc. but can you not ask for maybe two check-ups (and two six month prescriptions) per year if he's going to be on the medication for life?

It would cut down a lot of your costs and then you can just buy online.

If they don't consider that I would honestly look at switching vets and finding one that would.

@purpleme12 it's pretty much every medicine and then the human ones go up randomly. The wholesaler provides a price update file every month to us.
