Haven't posted on this thread before (but look at the lovely pics often) as only been on MN for two years and lost my last, beautiful cat, Dolly, three years ago. Due to divorce and house move, I still haven't got another cat. My adult daughter has also since moved out and took her dog (who lived with us at mine) with her. I still see him at least once a week thankfully. So no lovely pets st home now.
I've recently been looking for another cat/cats, as usually had two and would prefer to have two again. I also wanted cats that do not look like my previous ones. I've had grey tabby, pure black, black with white tuxedo and blue and white. Two rescues and two through friends/family. Never from a breeder.
Ive recently been approached about homing these tortie two beauties, through a friend. Fate?!
I'm very excited. I haven't had kittens for 15yrs and I'm chuffed to be hopefully homing both. I live alone now and am so looking forward to having two minxes to look after, entertain me and great company.
Thought you other cat lovers would appreciate a photo.
Mum is Maine coon (I think the ears give that away), dad is unknown as mum got out before she was neutered. I'm going to see the kittens with their mum on weds. They're 9 weeks now.
I'm thinking of naming them Dixie (left) and Purdey
Just wanted to share my excitement!

Could I ask you all... how do I get them to know their names? I've have two before but never two kittens at the same time so I'm unsure how I can get them to know their names? They are always together. I've talked to them each individually and told them their names (as you do when you're a crazy cat woman) but I don't understand how they can learn their names. Thanks all

They are gorgeous.

You could try petting them or giving them treats individually while using their names. Of course, they could do what my cats have always done, which is simply to ignore their names...

LoonyLois · 09/06/2023 07:18

They are gorgeous! How old are they?

eurochick · 09/06/2023 07:23

I wouldn't bother trying to teach them their names. Pretty soon they will be known as "get down from there", "ouch I am not a toy" and "Mrs smooshy furrykins".

TiredandLate · 09/06/2023 07:35

They are gorgeous and look like absolute trouble 😅good luck.

I don't think my two know their individual names, they've let me train them to come home when I whistle and call their names but they react the same to either name.

Vermin · 09/06/2023 07:40

They’re lovely. And they’ll only learn their name so they can ignore it, therefore do t worry too much about teaching them!

WhisperingAutistic · 09/06/2023 14:00

I've got 5 and they do know their names. They ignore me like, but their ears twitch when I say their names 🤣
They all come running to ch ch ch though

pointythings · 09/06/2023 19:26

My 4 absolutely know their names and their nicknames too. I'm currently training them to come in out of the catio when I appear outside and it's working. (Because they get a treat if they go in)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/06/2023 00:48

Ahhh so glad they have taken you on board .

In the first photo they look all "please take us home, we're good girls " (and you fell for it)

In the second photo they have the look DD calls Well they'll be straight into your knife drawer especially the one with more ginger on her face Grin

We shared our lives with a tortie/white for 15 years (rescue) they are lovely cats but you'll hear Naughty Tortie I'm sure !

You do know you cannot possibly bore Litter Tray folk with cat pictures , they demand them Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/06/2023 00:52

WRT names , we a;ways name change our animals .
The guinea-pigs answered to the sound of a rustling bag .

The cats (who DH claims are Higher Intelligence Beings than the guinea-pigs were - we don't have guineas now ) quirk their ears to the sound and mutter what ever under their breath

sawnotseen · 11/06/2023 05:39

@LoonyLois
They are almost 10 weeks old. Mum stopped feeding them and was getting agitated by them so owner wanted them to be rehomed

Haha yep.

OP they are absolutely gorgeous! I love torties.

I am amused at the randy father story, but he and mum made some beautiful kittens 😻

hellsbells99 · 11/06/2023 07:47

They are lovely 😻

sawnotseen · 12/06/2023 06:18

Update, the girls are doing fine and being wonderful. I'm going away next week for a few days and previous owner is going to Kitty-sit for me (this was arranged before I took them) - but I'm going to miss them so much! Lady wouldn't take any money for them so I've sent her a bouquet of flowers and will give thank you cards with £10 each for her two children when I drop them off. Is that enough? I've been looking online and She could have got £100s for them.

They are beautiful. I’m trying to talk DH into a kitten at the moment. The problem is that we work full time and are out of the house for 8 hours a day. (He won’t have two).

Last year I found a Maine Coon! Yes, found. He’d been abandoned and turned up on my doorstep. We think it was a breeder who dumped him as the had a deformed foot. Sadly we couldn’t keep him but he went to a really loving home.

Here is a couple of pictures of him in his new home, and how he was when we found him.

I'm so glad he has a loving home.

Clarich007 · 12/06/2023 09:40

Stunning little beauties. I love torties, mine were anything but naughty.
I wish you many happy years with them. Keep the photos coming, we never get tired of seeing beautiful kittens growing up. 😻😻

Clarich007 · 12/06/2023 09:45

PS, love their names.
Their coats are beautiful. One thing that amazed me when I first had cats, was thst the skin is the same colour as the patterns under the coat. I just assumed the skin would be pink all over.!

sawnotseen · 12/06/2023 10:18

Thanks all.
@Clarich007 their names are:
Dixie - from a book that I read as a child.
Purdey - Joanna Lumley in The New avengers and the haircut me and my mum had....back in the day

Beautiful kittens. I love torties.

I had two very clever, very affectionate, very gorgeous sisters from kittens and they were no naughtier than any other cat I’ve had, in fact considerably better behaved than the tabby minx lolling on my bed at the moment. But he is part Burmese.

Our previous cat was a tortie/white . Patches on her stomach, white bib and paws. That lovely brindle on her body.
When she had her side shaved for spaying her skin was pink with brown spots , like an exotic teeny ocelot.

Resident cats are black with pale skin, like the reverse of a polar bear !
