Call the emergency vet tonight or wait until tomorrow?

I'm so worried about my cat. She's two years old. All day she's been really off colour. She hasn't eaten a thing and she's done nothing except sleep in a drawer under the bed. She wouldn't touch her food this evening.

I'm so worried about her. Would you call the vets tonight or see how she is in the morning and call them then? I'm finding it hard to sleep. She always sleeps next to me on the bed, but she's taken herself back to the drawer to be on her own. Don't know what the best thing to do is.

I'm a vet. Lots of possibilities as to what's going on - some potentially more serious than others. I would call a vet tonight and discuss it with them. Best of luck!

Crazymadchickenlady · 26/02/2023 23:17

When mine went off colour like this it was a cat bite abscess. Maybe check the cat over for a swollen lump.

RicciardoPerez · 26/02/2023 23:18

Any chance she could be pregnant?

bellswithwhistles · 26/02/2023 23:19

Call the vet (presume you have insurance?)

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 26/02/2023 23:37

Is she drinking and toileting okay?

If so, she's probably okay until morning but if not I'd want her seen tonight.

Reluctantadult · 27/02/2023 06:32

Mine is in the same boat. I suspect pancreatitis, because he's diabetic. I. spoke to the out of hours vet last night and decided to keep him at home overnight, checked him 4 times. Honestly a bit relieved he's still with us this morning bless him. Just counting down the time until the vets appointment at 9:15 now.

How's the cat this morning op?

ServantOfFelines · 27/02/2023 10:32

She was a bit perkier this morning and managed a tiny bit of food, but she's back in the drawer now :(
Still no vomiting or diarrhoea, which is good. It's just the not eating and lethargy. I've got a vets appointment for her this evening (the earliest they could fit her in). We're insured and everything so I just hope they can tell me what's wrong and make it better.

Just out of curiosity it's not felix your feeding her is it?

Mine is in the vets for 24hrs now, having a drip, blood tests, painkillers, possibly an abdominal scan. Basically see if they can get him drinking and eating or not. Have had to put a cost ceiling on this of £2k. We don't have insurance. Hoping we can confirm what we're dealing with at least then will have to see what next.

Reluctantadult · 27/02/2023 14:44

Good news, scans are clear! They think he has a kidney infection and needs some hardcore antibiotics. They need to run some cultures, start antibiotics, pain relief, get him eating and back on his insulin. Hoping he can come home tomorrow. (trying to keep a lid on the costs)

What a relief! So glad to hear.

How is your kitty doing, OP?

ServantOfFelines · 27/02/2023 20:49

Took her to the vet this eve. She had a high temp of 40. Vet has kept her in overnight so they could take bloods and give her IV fluids. I've already had a message from the vet saying that her bloods were negative for anything really nasty, which is a huge relief. She's probably got a bug/infection. They'll try some antibiotics tomorrow and hopefully after the fluids she'll perk up a bit. Thanks for checking in. I'm going to miss her so much tonight. She normally sleeps next to me and sandwiches me between her and DH. What will I do with all the space in bed?!

myveryownelectrickitten · 27/02/2023 21:02

oh poor kitty! I hope she recovers swiftly! And that you both get some sleep! My little cat sleeps under the duvet along my legs, and I would miss her too so I know how you feel. I hope yours is well very soon! Flowers

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 27/02/2023 21:27

She's in the best place 🥰

Paws crossed she can come home tomorrow 🐾

Reluctantadult · 27/02/2023 21:37

Fingers crossed we both get our cats home tomorrow op

myveryownelectrickitten · 28/02/2023 17:21

How are the thread kitties today…?

Reluctantadult · 28/02/2023 22:22

Mine is home, has eaten and had his meds then took to his cushion and not moved since. Waiting for rest of the test results, but fingers crossed he can have some more happy times at home yet.

Hope yours is home op.

ServantOfFelines · 28/02/2023 23:26

She's at the vets for one more night. But her temperature has come down and she's eating again. They just need to see her poo! Once she's performed and they're happy her temp is stable then she can come home. I can't wait to have her back!!

Oh that’s good news! So pleased that @Reluctantadult ‘s boy is home, and hoping that your lovely puss is back tomorrow, @ServantOfFelines x

ServantOfFelines · 01/03/2023 12:23

She's home! She's playing with a catnip hedgehog inside a big cardboard box that I saved specially for her.
