Katkin - cat loved the trial box, hates the next batch (of course)

Anyone had any issues with Katkin food? I was so pleased DCat liked it as I wanted to move away from Felix (which is what he was on when we adopted him from the rescue shelter).

Did a 14 day trial and he loved it all. Now I’ve bought a whole months supply he won’t touch it. He has dry food as an alternative so he’s not starving but he will be hungry, he’s a greedy boy and loved Felix and was just as excited with the Katkin.

Is he just being a typical cat and messing with my mind or has anyone else had this happen, with Katkin or any other food?

I'm no help but my cat has suddenly decided she won't eat gourmet sachets having loved them for ages. I stupidly tried Sheba terrine and now she'll eat nothing else and it's much more expensive. 🙈 The other one likes Hills dried food and is thankfully consistent!

P.s. I think cats are just notoriously fickle!

DartmoorDoughnut · 14/02/2023 20:11

Have you tried the chicken sprinkles things on top? Or microwave for 15/20seconds first. Mine loves it but occasionally gets fussy and those help

FannyFifer · 14/02/2023 20:20

Cats are utter arseholes.
Mines used to eat everything, now she only eats Blink sachets, specifically the tuna one, only the bloody tuna one. £1.20 a go,

I have done it with sprinkles and without, heated and not. He has finally begrudgingly eaten 2/3 of his tea, having ignored breakfast. It’s so expensive and I don’t mind because I adore him but I don’t really want to start with another brand and I don’t want to go back to Felix as the litter tray has been a revelation since he started on KatKin! Argh cats!

I had the same problem. He liked it at first, then it gave him the runs for a few days so he woulldn't touch it after that. . I cancelled the subscription and have loads left in the freezer.

brokenarmabroad · 14/02/2023 20:46

I'd perseve, especially if he has eaten some of it. DCat used to have a mix of both Katkin and Untamed, and was much more enthusiastic about Untamed. As time has gone on he's got more and more keen on his Katkin and doesn't eat anything else now.

TheFoundLink · 04/04/2023 19:46

I think Katkin changed their recipes?
I went back to it end of Feb and all fine but the batch I received for March has odd packaging and the odd texture.
Think I’m going to cancel

LemonRedwood · 04/04/2023 19:56

I had this with Katkin. He absolutely loved it at first but after about a month there was total refusal. He would starve himself rather than eat it.

Tried a few other but have now been with Untamed for almost a year. To his credit, he did try every flavour once, but will now eat only two of them. And must be in jelly, not gravy 🙄

Our old boy wouldn't touch Katkin. He literally ate nothing. Gave up on it in the end.

AltitudeCheck · 05/04/2023 08:15

Ours loved Katkin and thrived on it for a year... But they have altered the recipe and the new recipe is awful and we are now back to looking for alternatives.

malovitt · 08/04/2023 19:01

I've just opened the new KatKin delivery and it seems really mushy. The new packaging is really fiddly to open and takes up more room in the freezer. If you try to warm it in the microwave it literally turns into liquid. Very disappointing. Also wondering whether to carry on.

MereDintofPandiculation · 08/04/2023 21:17

I fed Cat 1 and Cat 2. Same food on both plates. Both looked, shuddered and backed off. So I picked up cat 2's plate and put it on Cat 1's table, She ate with gusto. So I put her plate down near Cat 2, who hoovered it down.

DartmoorDoughnut · 22/05/2023 18:05

I’ve stopped after the recipe change, trying her on whiskers 🤢 but she seems to like it

AltitudeCheck · 24/05/2023 13:59

Ours have now come around to the Katkin new recipes. It took bribing with chicken sprinkles for several days but they both now eat it. It doesn't look or smell as good as it used to but, for now at least, we have healthy tummies again!
