At my wits end with a fusspot

Am at the end of my tether with our cat who is the fussiest eater going. We have tried all types of foods; with jelly, with sauce, patès. Some she will eat half a bowl and then never again, others she just will not eat. Point blank refusal. Sniff and then she will scratch as if to cover it up and it’s back to asking for food when the bowl is full. It’s driving me insane as she is clearly ravenously hungry and get refuses the food I put down. It will just sit in the bowl and she will carry on harassing me for food. She is definitely hungry and I don’t think it’s just neurotic behaviour. She is wormed, the vet says there’s nothing wrong. She has no health problems.
I spend a fortune on food constantly to try and get something she will eat, or seems to like - and nothing so far. She is now about 5 and always been like this. She will not eat whiskers, felix, purina. She did eat lidls own brand for a couple of weeks and then stopped.

Does anyone have any recommendations of a wet cat food that a really really fussy eater might like?? I feel she is so miserable because she is starving hungry, and she is constantly under our feet or making noise for food which she refuses. Any thoughts welcome! X

Same boat - currently having limited success with encore but only from a held teaspoon which isn't really workable long term.

Prior to that - Gourmet Gold Savoury Cake was liked but not all flavours and they now seem to have gone off.

Tried everything - all major brands and many obscure ones thanks to zooplus. Ham chicken real fish like tuna not liked - though one likes freeze dried chicken/duck treats.

Also tried many bowls - currently one of the lowest most dog like twin bowl bought early on in cat ownership is only one will eat from but only one - should be one of the worst ones we own but no.

We have more luck with dried food - but even there it's difficult.

Mine will only reliably eat Sheba fish in jelly and even then she’ll sometimes turn her nose up at it, I think just to make a point though goodness knows what the point may be other than reminding me she’s a cat. Have tried other wet foods but after being very enthusiastic initially will then just lick the jelly or gravy.

just a thought OP, she’s not getting fed somewhere else as well that you know of?

Anyway, some good comes out of her refusal as the local food bank are pleased to take in any unopened but rejected pouches,

She's gorgeous.

TempCat also does that thing of scratching the floor next to food he doesn't like. And he's been very fussy - only really basically likes one type of cat food (Gourmet pouches with gravy or Gourmet Gold melting heart pate) and even then gets bored with it. Have tried several brands from cheap supermarket own to expensive and he is very stubborn about trying anything new but I've been partially successful.

If cat liked sausage maybe she'll like real meat cat food? If you decide to try Katkin then there is a trial pack discount code you can use - I can PM you. It is expensive but I think they are meant to eat less as it fills them up more. TempCat initially refused to touch it and is still not keen but will eat it mixed half & half with his usual pouch. I've concluded he doesn't like 'lumpy' cat food so add extra water to the pouches and mush it up a bit and pour the juice over.

I've also cut down biscuits/kibble to small amounts for 'treats' as his fills up on those and won't eat as much wet food, which he needs to as he's gets constipated. I'm about to try some high meat content/grain free kibble to see if he will swap to that as well.

Have you also experimented with where you put the food (somewhere quiet & out of the way), using a flat plate (whisker friendly).

Good luck.

Haha, I should have asked that! My cat has her main bowl of biscuits in my bedroom-come-study as she won't eat without a human present. She also has biscuits in her the spare room and the kitchen.

This, I think, gets to the heart of it @Walkinginthesand !

My two love Untamed. My friend's two are fussier than mine and one of them wouldn't touch wet food at all until I brought a tin of Untamed round.

One my cats is like this!

Only one that he will eat fairly consistently is Cosma asia in jelly tuna and salmon. And o ot if it’s the pouch not the tin 🙄.

He is more willing to eat dry - only Purizon though and 2 flavours of that that he switches between.

It’s a total pain. maybe I will give untamed a try.
