The boys are being neutered tomorrow! What to expect?

So the boys are off to have their little trouble puffs off tomorrow 😬 I know it’s a minor procedure but also dreading leaving them at the vets 😢 how long does it take for them to recover ? Will they help them together after the op? I’m worried they won’t like being separated.

Drunk behaviour my one cat was utterly drunk afterwards 😂 he tried to dig in his water bowl and persisted in climbing me to snuggle then sliding down me and repeated for AGES!

I had two boys done at once the vet said keep them calm this did not work but they healed ok

The vet told me when I got my two females done that they would be very sleepy for a while and should be kept somewhere quiet and fed cat mousse (which they conveniently sold) as they wouldn’t be interested in actual cat food for a couple of days. Think they gave them the wrong meds to come round because they bounced out of their carriers, looked at the mousse with utter disgust and whined until they got their normal food, which they wolfed.

They will be fine, and they will love you forever for being the one that takes them away from the vet!

The only male I've had recovered in about 30 seconds tbh. He barely seemed to notice it happened, and wanted to eat his normal food right away. The only thing is you have to stop them licking the area, so they might have to wear a collar for a few days.

Don't worry, OP, it's a minor op for the boys. I was also concerned about it, but mine barely seemed to know anything had happened to them. One of mine was ridiculously goofy and purry while the meds wore off.

Gorgeous chunky kittens, by the way!

Thanks all. Got OH to drop them at the vets then I will fetch them later to ensure I’m the hero that rescued them and therefore the favourite! 🤭

The vet said to keep mine in and feed them chicken afterwards - one was bouncing off the walls so I had to let him out to run off the excess energy, then he came in and wolfed his usual food down. The other didn't seem to notice that anything had happened and was absolutely fine.

Makes recover really fast.

Mine have always been a bit wobbly when we bring them home, but half an hour later it's like nothing has ever happened.

cheeseybeans19 · 05/01/2023 15:08

All went well, they are groggy but fine and I can pick them up at 4.30! Can’t wait to see them! ❤️❤️

My female kittens were bouncing off the walls whilst also looking high as kites. I think they get given a drug to rouse them from anaesthesia which can make them temporarily hyper.
I got them little catsuits to stop them grooming the wound site, but they were such scrawny kittens that even the smallest size was too big!
Cats recovery from being neutered is pretty quick, for boy cats it's not invasive surgery and they mostly seem unbothered. Vets usually administer a strong pain killer which works for 24 hours and we didn't need to give our boy kitten anything else. He also didn't fuss with the site of the op either, had a good sleep and was fine the next day more or less. Girls took a little longer.

cheeseybeans19 · 05/01/2023 17:08

They’re home! They’re both staggering about like they’re drunk and monty was shaking at the vets but not now he’s home. Hoping they’ll have a sleep and feel much better ❤️❤️

The vets have always told me to feed my cats white fish or boiled chicken. Err no chance. They just won't eat it. The late Maia would have her head straight in the food bowl as soon as she got home.
