My darling girl who is at least 14 years old or maybe a bit older, has had this lipoma tissue on her abdomen for a while now. I think she’s had it for about 2 years when it started. The vet said it was nothing to worry about.

But in the past month or so we have noticed a significant growth in it. We are phoning the vets tomorrow but I am so so worried 😥has this happened to anyone else before? She seems her usual self, the lipoma feels a normal temperature and she doesn’t appear in pain when it is touched.

Slight boost. We have a vets appointment booked for Wednesday. Has anyone any words of wisdom? 😢

I didn't want to read and run.

I have no firsthand experiences of lipomas in cats, but as far as I am aware they don't pose any issue to them. I think, generally if they grow they may just start to become uncomfortable rather than anything more sinister. You are doing the absolute right thing getting a vet appointment, and I know how nerve wracking the wait can be.

We are crossing our fingers and paws for your beautiful cat.

I just lost my lovely tortoiseshell beauty earlier today at almost 15, and I really do understand your worry. They are precious x

Thank you for replying! Yep I am absolutely hoping that it’s growth is nothing sinister.
I am so so sorry for your loss of your cat. 😢😢😢

My dog has a huge lipoma , it appeared over a weekend , it’s positioning means it would be incredibly difficult to remove so we live with it , dog is 12 and very fit and active , we have had needle biopsies done to check it isn’t anything nasty . Hope your cat keeps well .

@asblackasyoursoul Can I ask what the outcome of this was? My cat has something similar and I'm a little concerned 😟

Hey! So her lipoma burst one night - quite a bit of blood and pus. She didn’t appear fussed at all, I cleaned it with a warm damp cotton wool ball. She didn’t appear in pain.
This was of course while on the phone to the emergency vets - we brought her in and the vet wasn’t concerned at all. Said it should just close up itself but to keep an eye on it for potential infection.
it burst about maybe a month or two ago. It’s since gone much smaller and has healed itself up.
It could also potentially fill up again and burst but it’s nothing to worry about.

Have you taken your cats to the vet to get checked out as I think all these lumps are probably slightly different and I don’t want to tell you it’s nothing to worry about just incase it is more serious x

@asblackasyoursoul Thanks so much for replying! Ahh glad it was nothing more sinister. Weirdly my cat's one has shrunk in size in the past couple of days so I wonder if it also burst somewhere and I didn't see it... he's got a vet appointment anyway coming up so I'll double check what they think. 💜

That sounds more like a cyst than a lipoma as they are filled with fat not pus and blood , glad your cat is better .

dementedpixie · 06/03/2023 12:57

Sounds more like a cyst @asblackasyoursoul
Lipomas consist of fat cells that grow together in a clump and can get larger over time.
If the wall of the cyst wasn't removed then it can refill. Did they not suggest removing it?

One of our cats had a lump that they said was a lipoma. Small to start with, it grew bigger and looked like a cauliflower. He kept licking it, so we fashioned a little body suit to protect it. That didn't stop him so he had a head cone, which he hated. We bathed it and pus came out which had a foul smell (right under his very sensitive nose- poor thing) He was so depressed, so we told the vet to either cut it out or PTS. After the op he had a good few years.
