My cat is fat

My 6 year old cat went missing for three weeks in June this year, when he returned he was skinny, matted and full of fleas and ticks. He has always been an active outdoor cat, but since his return he just isn't interested in going out anymore, he just snuggles on the sofa asleep all day.

We feed him the same as before he went missing, one pouch of wet food a day plus a scoop of biscuits (he is a large Siberian). I've tried getting some toys to encourage exercise but no luck so far, he merely lazily swipes a paw if they're within reach.

Any suggestions for toys your cats have enjoyed?

I could only see mackerel in a spicy tomato sauce in Lidl so I got the olive oil one, massive success I have to say - although it stinks ! He was in such a frenzy the bowl was moving around 🤣currently having a really good wash and brush up. Only 79p as well - cheaper than cat food 🥰

Glad it helped but oil - urgh don't envy you cleaning that up!

The oil mainly went down the sink as I though of ‘shits’ and after a good spraying of kitchen cleaner all the stench has gone plus one happy fast asleep cat. The tin went straight in a bag In outside. I am definitely not recycling it…….it’s apparently a super food for cats so I can put up with a fish whiff short term 😻

Any supermarket including Aldi and Lidl I guess it's whether or not it's in stock.

Sardines in tomato sauce is cheaper and just as adored in this house.

he’s done such cataclysmic farts my whole bedroom stinks …it’s too cold to open windows -maybe it’s a bit rich for him ? 💩 crikey it’s baaaaad how can such a beautiful creature make such an appalling stench 😭

Haribo went to the vet for his annual jabs and weigh in today - 6.6kg. Back to weighing out his food.

Our fat cat came from the RSPCA. She had been in care for a year and was a real chunk. She’s on a strict diet - one pouch a day and a small scoop of biscuits. She’s losing weight slowly but we’re hoping that she lose more when she starts going outside. She’s generally quite active and loves playing so that helps too.

Currently crying outside my room as I've shut him out because I'm in a meeting ...! Yesterday I dropped a sausage by accident and he was unbelievably fast in nicking it and then slept for ages 🤣

He does look a bit slimmer to me despite the sausage!

my boy is in a complete bitey strop right now whether that is because he only has ‘cats’ food to eat or the rain who knows? (the has had some ham actually)

He's just done post litter tray zoomies and used one of the kitchen cupboard baseboards as a launch pad and it's fallen off due to the force hw generates 🤣

Mine is the opposite! He's 3kg and eats like a horse. The vet was "well his bloods are perfect, maybe he's just a small cat but he looks like he should be bigger"

I free feed him grain free wet food, he probably eats 3-5 pouches a day, and will nibble dry if he's hungry
Today he's eaten 400g worth of pouches

I guess it's the same as some people can eat loads and be slim and others can't (sob)

hi……I probably think you hoped I had forgotten Arthur’s journey but I’m wondering how is the most scrummy Arthur getting on ❤️there is no escape !

Funnily enough just posted on a new fat cats thread!

He is now 150g away from his target so maybe a month or so and he will be there I think. The vet nurse said don't get too excited as the extra food he will be allowed when maintaining is not very much haha.

Here he is, with a wet nose from eating his food too enthusiastically. And disrupting my work day by inserting himself between me and my laptop while I was on the sofa listening to a meeting 😻
