My cat is fat

My 6 year old cat went missing for three weeks in June this year, when he returned he was skinny, matted and full of fleas and ticks. He has always been an active outdoor cat, but since his return he just isn't interested in going out anymore, he just snuggles on the sofa asleep all day.

We feed him the same as before he went missing, one pouch of wet food a day plus a scoop of biscuits (he is a large Siberian). I've tried getting some toys to encourage exercise but no luck so far, he merely lazily swipes a paw if they're within reach.

Any suggestions for toys your cats have enjoyed?

One thing for sure I would NEVER get anything done with a cuddly kitty like Arthur - he’d just be hugged snuggled and snuffled incessantly - he’s so purrfect 😻

He breaks into bins, microwaves, ovens, fridges ....🤣

Arthur is a majestic king of cats, he’s absolutely gorgeous😻 I know it’s not healthy but all the chubby cats are adorable.

Can Arthur give me any tips, he’s managed to lose more than me and I’m a huge amount heavier than him😜🤣

He suggests going to bed early and getting up late so the eating window is reduced ...haha. when he's whiny I just put him to bed (he sleeps downstairs as he's a pain at night as well lol)

maybe not a good time to mention, considering ‘Arthur’s journey’ but there is a new food called gourmet revelations mousse with ‘cascading’ gravy 🤣 my boy adores it I heard the rasping of his tongue against the metal bowl just now, it’s obviosuly some kind of cat crack 😭
chicken, Tuna and salmon varieties, I’ve just stocked up as on introductory offer 😻

Arthur was licking his empty bowl earlier in the hope he had left some behind earlier (clue: he had not)

Aaaaaaaaaw Arthur ❤️❤️❤️❤️licking bowl…it’s amazing to me when mine licks the bowl as a rule at least half the food is left and I can’t even feed the hedgehogs with it now as they’re hibernating just pure waste 😭

I can relate to Arthur, I’m whiny when I’m hungry too🤣 And most of the time actually🤪

I like his thinking, I will try sleeping more🤣

I’m thanking my lucky stars Dcat isn’t overweight as she would kill me in my sleep if she didn’t get food overnight! She has to sleep by our feet and wakes me up several times to check I’m alive as it is😻

Still got nowhere on Operation Diet. The problem is that we need to find a food that SlimGirl is sufficiently interested in that we can train her to use the microchip cat feeder, and she's indifferent to everything we've got at the moment. Neither of them will eat wet food or left over cooked chicken.

Might try her on a bit of tuna but my hopes aren't high, she only eats kibble and I've forgotten which particular types she likes. I need to keep a chart with "yum", "meh", "will not touch unless actually starving", "yum but will result in vomiting". I'll try her on some Dreamies, but does anyone else have any suggestions for tempting good quality dry food?

@AintNobodyHereButUsKittens Have you tried Royal Canin Satiety Weight Management food? Our Emerald likes it although she has failed to lose any weight

We have purchased a huge box of his diet food as apparently the price is going to go up very soon for royal canin and it's bad enough already. He won't be weighed again for a couple of months now. Photos I can do ...!

he really is the most gorgeous beautiful cat in the whole wide world that first pic i have no words ❤️ his fur looks so lush he’s a prince amongst cats thank you so much…..I will be checking back sorry I sound as though `I am ‘Arthur’s stalker ‘ but I am sure I’m not the only one on this thread smitten ❤️

He has the kindest sweetest little face, like he’s a real softy cat that doesn’t kill anything - probably not the case though 😭

Oh gosh no he's not a hunter. When he was a kitten he had severe breathing problems when he was outside, maybe an allergy, and had to use an inhaler on a spacer, like kids do, with a cat face shaped mask! He has mostly grown out of it now but he never really got used to going outside. He's mostly indoors but has a little wander if we are in the garden when it's nice out. He's never caught more than a spider, the garden birds just carry on when he's outside as they know he's not a threat!

He doesn't have any territory manners though and has absolutely massive fights with other cats who pass through the garden if he happens to be out there at the same time 😅
