How much does your cat weigh? Do you think it's too much, too little or just right? :)

Just that really.
My 2yo ginger tom weighs 6 kilos, and his sister weighs just under that. They are huge but not at all overweight. I'll be interested to see how big our 5mo kitten gets - he's small but quite chunky at the moment.

I have three cats round about 4kg, and one cat (Basil) between 5.5 and 6kg.
Basil has a much bigger frame than the other cats (larger head, longer body etc.) but he isn't a fatty.

ReedOfFate · 14/11/2022 11:59

Mine are all between 3.5kg and 4.5kg - with the ginger boy being the heaviest. The girls are 3yo and the boy is 5yo. The skinny one just has a completely different build; she’s a long cat but feels like a feather when you pick her up

Allergictoironing · 14/11/2022 12:02

Until recently, Boycat was 6kg and Girlcat 4.5kg for 6 years. Both were considered "perfect" at their annual checkups. They are large, but more in a long rangy way.

Last spring Boycat had lost about 4-500g, but was considered "absolutely fine at the weight", though sadly since then he's lost another kg and has been diagnosed with kidney failure. Girlcat had pun ON about 400g, and I was told she was OK but they wouldn't want to see her put any more in ideally.

With the 6kg, if I said it on the phone there would be a comment about him being possibly fat, but when they would actually see him they realised he's just big. It's similar with people - a slim built 5ft tall woman would definitely weigh less than a 6ft 6 rugby playing man, but both would be a fair weight for height, build & muscle mass.

LadyDanburysHat · 14/11/2022 12:09

Boycat is 5kg and about right. He is a big, with a long body.

housemaus · 14/11/2022 12:13

One of mine is almost 7kg. He's bloody MASSIVE. He was always ging to be a big cat (standing side by side with our other boy cat, he's taller and broader and his paws are like a German Shepherd's haha) but he's also just a bit fat We're working on bringing his weight down - we're not entirely sure why he's such a fatty, because he gets fed exactly the same as the others and they have locked bowls, but we think he gets himself a takeaway (mice/birds or from other people's bins, he's an ex-feral) regularly.

The other two are normal-sized - both 4kg ish.

Beamur · 14/11/2022 12:15

They're all around 4kg. Two just under, two just over.

PeloFondo · 14/11/2022 12:23

3.2kg. He should weigh more but he's always been light

KozmicBlue · 14/11/2022 12:24

My current cat is a petite 3.4kg cat compared to my giant 7.4kg last cat. She somehow seems to take up much more space than him though. Cat physics is weird.

Our big ginger tom weighed 5,3 kg at his biggest. He was a big, solid lad and was a little porky when he was a healthy adult (he liked to enter every house with a cat flap and help himself to whatever was on offer - and yes he was well fed at home!). Will never forget him coming home wearing next door's cat flap!
It was sad to see him become thin and scraggy before he died at the ripe old age of 18.

Two 3yo cats here, the male is 3.8kg and the female is 3.1kg. Both on the small side but perfectly healthy.

It’s cracked me up that this thread is full of ginger Toms!

This is Flynn, weighing in at a mighty 6.9kg- he’s as long as my 6ft 4 DH’s torso, and talk, but yes, just a bit fat also!

We have no idea how- we fed him exactly as per the RSPCA instructions that he came with but he’s now going on a diet as he’s put on 1kg on that! We now think that the RSPCA were deliberately feeding him up as he was a stray when rescued and at some point we should have reduced that 🙈!

He’s bigger than several of my friend’s dogs, but insists on being carried round the house like a baby and I can’t even go for a wee without him joining me, even if he was asleep- he can’t possibly be alone. So he’s also known as “the baby”!

He is GORGEOUS, and the exact same weight and shape as my big boy cat who's also a giant needy baby haha! Mine is currently fast asleep on the decoy (broken) laptop I leave on my desk so he can work from home with me... I had to provide this because otherwise I was scared his giant self would break my actual laptop 😅

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 14/11/2022 13:00

3.5kg. DH still calls her fatty-catty.

My old (tabby, just for variety) was 6.5kg. Every single time we went to the vet they would comment he was too heavy - until they actually looked at him, and decided he was a perfect weight for his (huge) frame.

user1471548941 · 14/11/2022 13:13

Omg @housemaus I think our cats may be brothers! When I WFH, mine HAS to sit on my laptop…. My colleagues joke he goes to more Zoom calls than them!

maybe we need a decoy laptop…

TheKitchenWitch · 14/11/2022 13:18

The ginger toms on here are indeed hilarious @user1471548941

I'm loving all the pics. I could essentially spend all day looking at cat photos.

One is too small, one is too big and one is just right.

The just right one is very fluffy so looks bigger than her 3.4kg. The small one looks skeletal but also 16 years old and still over 3kg . The fat one at 5.5kg is just food obsessed. His whole world revolves around eating. Everything he does is punctuated by a snack. He also cries like a baby if there is an empty food bowl within a 1.5 mile radius. One vet thinks he should be on a diet, the other thinks he's perfectly fine. So we see the non-fat shaming one.

PossiblyPertunia · 14/11/2022 13:26

My boy is 7kg and my girl is 3kg. Both Ragdolls and both got an ok amount of fat on them (OK boy is a little chonky...)!

GiantKitten · 14/11/2022 13:31

2 small females, ages 10 & 9, one just under 4kg & one just over, weight pretty stable over the years (they do tend to gain over winter with more sleep and less activity)
1 half-Bengal bruiser male, age 7, usually c 7kg but at annual visit last week he’d gone up from 7.08 to 7.44 (up about 5%) and she said that was too much and he needs to slim down.
Dieting him is tricky because they eat together and he hoovers up their leavings 🤔
They only have 3-4 pouches a day between them, and 2 small cups of neutered Royal Canin biscuits. Maybe I should make him
run around a bit more…?
This is him swamping bigger little cat. He’s def got a large frame…🤣

My two boys are around 3.5kg each

ping78 · 14/11/2022 13:36

Aww, my ginger girl is only 2.3kg but is 6 months old only, I wonder how big she will get. Is it 1 year old they are adult sized?

GiantKitten · 14/11/2022 13:36

And this is him side by side with smaller girl cat.
4 years ago though…
(As he is practically twice her size, nearly twice her weight makes sense?)

Cheddar is 3.8 and feeling a little chunky. Magic was 4.8 and ok. Though a vet said she was obese. (Don't think she was. She's a Persian so had a different shaped body) She's now 4.kg and is skin and bone. And looks awful. Bloods all normal and well in her self.

Leroy. I'm 5'3" and he can reach the top of my hip bone when he wants something stands on his hind legs. 6.7kg at last weigh in, needs to lose about half a kilo. He says it's all fur though, the vet knows nothing and a few more Dreamies would not go amiss.
