Should I be stopping this behaviour or leaving them to it?

We have two kitties, around 5/6 months old now. They normally get on great, always stick together.

Only time they seem to fall out is when Tasha our girl kitten is playing with her favourite toys. She has little mice that she gets very possessive of, sits with them, hides them etc. When she is playing with the mouse, and Peanut the boy cat wants to join in, she growls at him, fights him and then runs away to hide her mouse somewhere else.

I feel bad for peanut, but not sure if i shojld leave them to figure it out themselves, or whether i should be intervening when they start growling at eachother?

My general rule is if there's no blood, no tufts of fur, no shrieks of pain and they get on OK later, then leave it. Like any good female, she's setting her boundaries (HER mice), and he keeps pushing them.

But I would try to find a toy that he particularly likes that she doesn't, just to even things up.

Yes thats my instinct as well, shes just putting boundaries in place which will be important whem she is catching real mice and he wants to eat the reward...!

Hes not so toy oriented as her, hes all about the food! We do have a treat ball for him though so might take that out a bit more. Hes on the heavy side though so try to limit the amount of food he devours eats!

Feel a bit sorry for him though, he doesnt understand why these little toys are so important to Tasha and he just wants to play!

Little cute update about the fighting over toys situation, and the cats managed to sort it out themselves...!

This morning when they appeared on the bed, they both had a toy with them...! So peanut decided if hes not allowed tashas, then he'll bring his own!

So they both sat next to eachother and played with their toys until we got up... very cute morning!

That is adorable!

Brilliant update! And now you know. Get sufficient toys that both can play with at the same time. She likes three mice but he wants them, then get him another three mice.

Then get a big box to put the toys in when you tidy up and then find one day that all toys are tipped out and both cats are sleeping in it.
