So Peanut & Pistachio have had their first exploration of ourside today, how do you trust that they will come back....!

They are both ready for it, and had a good sniff about, but were both wanting to venture out pretty much straight away! Theyve been out for about 10 mins twice, with us out with them keeping an eye, and then taking them back in with us.

Adapted straight away to going out the cat flap, but not come back through it yet. But not sure if thats because they dont know how to, or if it was just because they didnt want to come back in yet!

Am i being too cautious only doing little visits outside, should i just be leaving them outside on their own for a longer time?

We let new cats and kittens out before breakfast or tea. They always come back at feeding time.

Dreamies to get them back through the catflap.
Dreamies to call them back when they have wandered.

How old are they? Neutered? That would affect my answers on if you are being too cautious or not.

ChatterMonkey · 03/09/2022 16:08

They are 5 months, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Dreamies/treats works perfectly for one of the cats, but the other is less food oriented and is having too much fun when exploring outside to bother with treats...!

That's not a messy garden, it's a cat jungle that's perfect for exploring. We let our cats out for small amounts of time during daylight hours for the first few months and kept them in overnight during the winter months. My heart was always in my mouth when they'd eventually go exploring next door but they had to learn.

Gorgeous kitty forest, exactly the right size for kittenz.

Let them out for about half an hour this morning before breakfast, it was a bit drizzly but didnt seem to bother them at all!

When we wanted them to come in, a rattle of the food dish was enough to get peanut in and sitting by his food mat, pistachio was another story...! Loods of food rattles, her favourite rod toy, and in the end it was a lik e lix that convinced her to come close enough to be picked up and brought inside!

Knew she would be the difficult one as she is so not food oriented, and loving being outside.

And on the plus, peanut went for a poo outside so hopefuly the start of phasing out the litter tray...!
