Cats scared of new kitten?!

New rescue kitten arrived today… already have two one year ginger cats, who are brothers. Plan was to introduce them all slowly, but somehow the boys sneaked into the room we are keeping her in. Was the weirdest thing as they sniffed around and didn’t even seem to notice her at first. As soon as they did, they freaked out, got petrified and have gone to hide under the sofa!! These are two seasoned hunters who spend most of the time outside chasing birds and exploring the world, how are they so scared??? Photo below…

Because they are not as macho as they think they are. She is gorgeous!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/08/2022 07:31

And looks very confident.

To be fair your new kitten does look like a psycho killer. Who wouldn't be scared to death of her?
😹

Hilarious! She really does! She’s ridiculously confident and keeps hissing at my poor orange cats. They are besides themselves! They are not really seasoned hunters… they just fancy themselves as tough guys!

One has just been extremely brave!

That's very sweet. If they are at the touching noses phase already, I think you'll be ok 👍

frugalkitty · 18/08/2022 12:05

Just give it time, they just need to work out how to tolerate each other. Our kitten has been here a week now and our older cat has growled a few times, they've nose bumped and kitten will just sit down now if he glares at her. We just make sure the older one has an escape route for when he's had enough.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/08/2022 15:36

Kittens usually have a mom cat nearby so they may be looking for a protective mum cat to come flying out.

But yes she does look like she’s got that covered anyway. She’s beautiful though.

sevenoh · 18/08/2022 15:37

Oh bless them haha when we got our kitten. Our dog ( Welsh springer spaniel) was terrified of her and hide under the kitchen table shaking everytime he saw her - he got over it eventually!

They've just realised their new Overlord, Empress and Mistress of the Food Bowls and Best Sleeping Spots has exploded into their lives.

What is the name of this mighty Ruler?

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 18/08/2022 15:46

Ime black dcats are feisty! My big ddog won't attempt to pass ours or even be in the same room.

Dcat is 4kg.
Ddog is 30kg..

Exactly this! She’s already established herself as the boss. We have called her Fizzy

She's so cute! That's what one of mine must have looked like as a kitten. I got her when she was 1. She was boss from day 1 too. Maybe its the tuxedos. Mine is very intelligent and this one looks sharp too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/08/2022 13:58

How is it going? Has she firmed up her plans to Invade Poland yet?

Stripytee · 19/08/2022 14:22

She’s too busy exploring the whole house and poking her nose everywhere… and seems very intelligent (not used to having clever cats)!

🤣🤣🤣

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/08/2022 14:26

It’s a lot to do, a whole to be in-charge of and multiple other cats and humans to train.

She’ll be exhausted.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/08/2022 13:30

How is she getting on? My Bengal was clever so never a dull moment.

Current moggie has two brain cells that aren’t always talking to each other but is long haired and very beautiful.

Stripytee · 20/08/2022 21:24

Not great. One of my older cats has reached an uneasy truce with her in that he will be in the same room as her, although he’s still looking rather pissed off. The other is still petrified, he’s hardly been in the house and runs away everytime he sees her, I feel so guilty. But i am also struggling to understand why he’s so timid and jumpy, I get that its a big change but he has no reason not to be a confident cat.

Oh dear, have you looked at the cat introduction steps? You can go back a step if you need too. Poor lad.

Busy household and knew dkitten would be long off exploring the house (ddogs and back door far from where dcat sleeps). Bought extra litter tray and food bowls. Dcat sleeps on 1 dd's bed.. Put dkitten on other dd's bed and left them to it!! Dcat hissed a while. Dkitten did too. Within 2 days slept on 1 bed! Then bought the Xmas one and voila!
No pussyfooting around here!!
Few months in..
And recently..

Omg shes adorable. It took 5 mo ths before my 13 year old would touch noses with my kitten so you are doing well.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 22/08/2022 08:51

I’ve just posted about a new kitten with my two 2 year old cats. @Creepymanonagoatfarm yoy have achieved the dream! My older two are pretty unforgiving of each other to be honest so I have doubts about whether I will ever see them cuddling up to the kitten. But he’s also completely bonkers and cannot help himself play-attacking them, which kicks of loads of hissing and growling. We’re about six weeks in.
