My cat was hit by a car and killed last night

I am heartbroken. My dc are at their dad's, and I'm dreading telling them when they get home. I can't get another cat whilst we live in this house, as the road is just too busy and it's too upsetting.

Sorry, no real point to the thread. I just loved my cat so much. I have a chronic illness and mental health problems, and my little cat was always there for me. He was an especially friendly and snuggly cat, who would cuddle me back and purr in my ear. I could carry him around on my shoulder, or like a baby, and he would just relax in my arms and purr. He never said a word, as cats don't tend to do, but he was like my best friend.

These animals break our hearts

What a distressing thing to happen, I'm so sorry Flowers

DeeCeeCherry · 11/08/2022 03:56

I'm so sorry OP. Such an awful thing to happen. Cats are family aren't they. I hope you get through this ok💐

blubberball · 11/08/2022 03:59

Thanks. They certainly are family, and he was always such a comfort to me on any day I was struggling.

So sorry this happened. I remember my last cat well. He was a feral cat that we tamed. He was highly entertaining and would ‘fetch’ balls of paper when we threw them across the room. He was such a beautiful silver tabby. He was run over at a year old and it really knocked me. I’ve not been able to have another cat since. So sorry.

Mothstoaflame · 11/08/2022 04:35

Ahhh, I'm so sorry to see this. We used to have a cat who was so sweet that we used to call him 'therapy cat'. It's so hard. Sending handhold.

Fraaahnces · 11/08/2022 04:38

I’m so very sorry. Pets are the best people! I hope your Kitty didn’t suffer.

ChillysWaterBottle · 11/08/2022 04:39

Aw I'm so sorry OP. This is so sad to read. He sounds like he was a very, very loved cat x x x

I'm so sorry. It's a devastating thing to go through, take care of yourself Flowers

blubberball · 11/08/2022 07:34

@Flowersintheattic57 So sorry to hear this. Sadly, I've been through this a couple of times before in different circumstances. We have a cat flap at the back of the house, a huge garden and he wandered in to other gardens too. I didn't let him out the front of the house, but of course he found his way around over the fences and loved to explore. Sadly his luck just ran out.

@Mothstoaflame He definitely was a therapy cat! Especially to me.

@Fraaahnces I don't know the exact circumstances, but the lady who called me last night is from a local charity I know pretty well. She said that his injuries are such that he would have been killed instantly and wouldn't have suffered.

I don't know who found him, and cared enough to get his chip scanned and call me, but I am extremely grateful that they took the time to do so.

@ChillysWaterBottle He was very much loved by all the family. We got him from cats protection last September, and he was young and a very healthy. In his prime really.

I am so sorry you have lost your little pal Flowers
Do you have a photo that you would like to share ?

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 11/08/2022 07:49

This happened to me at Easter. Got a call from a local vet to say a cat had been hit and brought it she had sadly died. We couldn't stop crying for days, she was DD absolute best friend. We had her ashes back and DD has them next to her bed with an angel on top. Flowers for you it's really sad x

blubberball · 11/08/2022 08:01

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango (love the name) I'm so sorry. My dc are going to be so upset when I tell them.

I’m so sorry, I still miss my one in a life time cat who passed away 15 years ago!

it’s very sad x

HotSauceCommittee · 11/08/2022 08:07

Our 10 year old lad died like this in March. He was such a homey cat, I thought we'd have him for another 10 years and that this would never have happened.
I am very sorry for your loss x

hattie43 · 11/08/2022 08:13

One reason I won't have a cat is that I live near a road . I don't want the heartache .
I'm very sorry for your loss , losing a pet is devastating.

Gatekeeper · 11/08/2022 11:48

@blubberball what a handsome chap...Im so sorry. Heartbreaking for you all

loopylindi · 11/08/2022 11:56

Couldn't read and run. What a beautiful mog. The pain will lessen but the memories won't. We lost our forever cat over 25yrs ago and we still well up when we think of him or talk about his funny little ways. I've got a photo of him on my desk - black and white with lovely shiny fur.

MidnightMeltdown · 11/08/2022 12:09

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this 😢

Those who live on main roads could consider a blind or FIV positive cat. There are many in rescues needing indoor only homes.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/08/2022 14:38

I lost mine on the road too, it’s heartbreaking. You always think your cat has the street smarts and road sense.

blubberball · 11/08/2022 22:49

Thanks for your kind words everyone. He definitely did not have any road sense at all bless his heart. He just trotted around without a care in the world, but his luck just sadly ran out.
