Cat wary of boyfriend

Hi,

I have a 10 month old kitten, who's generally a lap cat, very friendly and sociable.

However, my boyfriend has starting staying over and the cat is very timid around him. He hides away in a cupboard and doesn't come out.

Boyfriend has bought him treats, fed him etc but cat hasn't warmed to him yet.

Anyone had similar who has any advice?

The cat will come round eventually. The best thing is for your BF to completely ignore him.

Whenever our cats meet new people, their attitude towards them is bang on the money. In the past we have ignored what the cats thought and we have regretted it every time.

Dump the bf. Cats instincts about a person are never wrong!

Ltb.......

Yup, trust your cat.

Honestly, bf has no red flags 😅

I'm just so confused why my mostly friendly kitten is hiding, he does seem slightly wary of men in general, but definitely more so with my bf

My next door cats are skittish around me and I'm lovely!!
It just takes time. Just tell him to ignore the cat and not make eye contact. The cat will learn that he's not a threat and will adjust in time.

Cats are fickle beasts, not skilled intuitive intelligences. The cat will come round, tell your boyfriend to ignore the idiot in the cupboard.

Weirdly after finding in the cupboard he came up into the bed at 1am walked past him and slept on my head until the morning...
Before going back in the cupboard.

Maybe territorial?

Cats ignore people who give them too much attention!

I suggest your BF ignores the cat completely for a few days Grin

We adopted two kittens a few years ago. One is very timid and really doesn't like men. It pretty much took several lockdowns for him to finally get used to DP (who lives here!). Now they are friends... although he still prefers me EnvyWink
