Cat sitters - think I need to book one for the first time. Where to start?

We are off on our first proper holiday for 4 years at the end of August and need to make plans for our cat. We used a cattery for a long weekend recently, and the cat hated it, we had to come home early to collect her as she was just hiding, not eating etc.

Has anyone used a cat sitter and where did you find them? How did your cat get on while you were gone? Would a cat sitter clean the litter tray, should I get a litter locker (we are in a flat & the bin store is a bit of a trek for a cat sitter to go everyday).

Probably over thinking this, but I feel quite worried about leaving her at home on her own in case she’s lonely. Also feels a bit weird having a stranger coming in while we are away, I will have to make sure the place is pristine before we go so the cat sitter doesn’t judge my slovenly ways.

Try "cat in a flat"
Really good xx

I use Trustedhousitter based off recommendations from here. It’s not for everyone especially if you’re not comfortable with strangers living in your home but I have found it a godsend. My cat is much happier being in her own environment, she is also quite needy so a visit one or two hours a day weren’t going to cut it. I’ve only every had lovely sitters who left my flat more clean and tidy than I did!

Also I get regular photos and videos and it’s obvious she’s not missing me at all! Traitor

Ah sorry, can't help with personal recommendations then. Good luck with your search!

My vet had a few cards and I asked on local facebook groups. My cats much preferred the sitter to going to the cattery.

The vet often has contacts and our local dog walker did as well.

erinaceus · 06/07/2022 01:58

The vet recommended the one I used.

Ask your local dog walkers - most of them
will do cat visits.
