Male cats vs female cats, which are more affectionate?

I have had 2 males cats before, first one was a rescue and didn't really have time for me but cuddled my other half. Second male had wobbly cat syndrome and was a mummies boy.
I now have 2 females and I always thought they were aloof and not affectionate, but I was wrong, Bella is a snuggle bug and loves cuddles, all the time and she is so friendly and likes everyone. Rosie ignored us all the time and would run away from us, however other the last couple of months she is now my best friend, she comes in and chills with me in the couch, loves cuddles and she likes it when I hold her paw.
So I would say based on the cats I have had, females are more loving.
What's everyone else experiences?

Of the cats I have known only one was very affectionate, he was a long haired cat called Bobby and the most placid tolerant love ever, he was great. I have a female cat at the moment and she is only 1, pretty tolerant, will let the DC carry her around like a baby, but fairly stand offish. It makes me the times when she does seek out a fuss more special Grin

Both ours have been affectionate, current MC kitten is male and even cuddles up to robin and kisses his nose as well as cuddles with us, so think depends on cat and bond. The old moggie it was most affection to the most well trained servant which was dh.

I was having this exact discussion with my mum the other day. We decided that male cats were better and female dogs were better as they are much more affectionate, playful and friendly.

I have been a cat servant for over 45 years. In my experience, it depends on the individual cat, not their sex. Of my two most affectionate, one was an inherited unneutered tom back in the 1970s, and the other was a rescue female. The tom would burrow under my duvet and sleep snoring in my face, and always roost on my lap on the sofa. The rescue female - who turned up on my doorstep in a Scottish winter - used to hang round my neck purring and would barely let me out of her sight.
I have had other cats of varied ages and both sexes, who would never lap sit, but only interact for food or game play.

My boy cat is ridiculous

That is adorable!

larkstar · 02/07/2022 15:40

I've had 2 males and 2 females - they are all completely different characters and personalities - all were affectionate and demonstrative - I think that's a reflection on the way we are with them - one was slightly more affectionate than the others but really - I don't think gender has anything to do with it.

I suspect mine has some Bombay in him as he has the head of one, and apparently Bombay are known as Velcro cats
If I am sat down he is sat on me, or gazing at me. If I say no then he puts his paw on my leg hopefully and waits Confused

Boys preferably a ginger fluffy one

I have two black Burmese cats and I agree wholeheartedly with the above poster about Burmese! They have absolutely no sense of personal space and insist on being with me at all times - they follow me round the house and are so vocal in their need for attention. If I sit down, they both sit right on top of me for prime cuddling position. I have to shut them out of my bedroom or they would insist on sleeping in bed with me too. I was always under the impression that cats were aloof and far more independent than dogs, but these pair are far more clingy and affectionate than all of my previous dogs put together.

My female cat Micky is very affectionate but it has to be on her terms.

I have two Burmese , one male and one female. They both insist on being as close to my face as possible at all times. I would say the male is more affectionate generally and wants fuss from everyone but the female reserves most of her affection for me only. She would be happiest if I just carried her around in a sling all day everyday.

My ginger Tom, named Mivvy Mivvy Morebeer(given to me in a pub!) was the most affectionate cat I've ever known but only with me. He would sleep with me usually in the space behind my knees and if I sat down for a minute he'd be on my lap.
He would follow me down the road as far as he could and wait there until I came back even hours later.
I felt a bit sorry for him when the kids came along because I just couldn't give him the same amount of attention. I loved him so much.
We have a brother and sister now. The female is affectionate on her own terms and hates being picked up.
Our black Tom is a strange one never sits on anyone's lap but likes cuddles sometimes. He is also scared of pretty much everything from plastic bags to the bin men😀
He was the smallest kitten I'd ever seen.
They have a lovely bond with each other though.

Id say girl cats are more affectionate. My girl just wants to be on my lap all day.

Orangelover · 22/12/2023 22:30

Never had a girl cat, but my boy cat is the cuddliest I've ever known. Can't get enough love Smile

blackpanth · 22/12/2023 22:46

Female. My girls are so affectionate and loving. My one not my partners would make a great therapy cat

caringcarer · 23/12/2023 14:19

If you get a kitten that's been handled a lot during first 6-8 weeks they are generally more affectionate than the ones who are not handled by humans much. Both of my cats are very affectionate but they were handled daily from 1 week old.

ANightmareBeforeChristmas · 23/12/2023 14:23

I've found our boy cats more loving to me and the girls to DH!

Catsmere · 23/12/2023 22:39

Purely down to the individual cat ime. I've had more females than males and they've all been very affectionate. One of the males wasn't, because his kittenhood was spent with a pair of arseholes who ended up leaving him behind when they moved out. Another was an abandoned four week old feral and he was very affectionate.
My current pair are females and they're extremely affectionate - downright clingy in Daisy's case! They were both street rescues, too.
