Male cats vs female cats, which are more affectionate?

I have had 2 males cats before, first one was a rescue and didn't really have time for me but cuddled my other half. Second male had wobbly cat syndrome and was a mummies boy.
I now have 2 females and I always thought they were aloof and not affectionate, but I was wrong, Bella is a snuggle bug and loves cuddles, all the time and she is so friendly and likes everyone. Rosie ignored us all the time and would run away from us, however other the last couple of months she is now my best friend, she comes in and chills with me in the couch, loves cuddles and she likes it when I hold her paw.
So I would say based on the cats I have had, females are more loving.
What's everyone else experiences?

I've had 1 girl and 2 boys, my girl is super affectionate, a real lap cat and 1 of my boys was also the same. My current boy is affectionate but on his terms!

TrainspottingWelsh · 25/06/2022 22:31

It’s always been females for me. But it’s not really a fair comparison. I’ve always been rural so with two exceptions, every cat I’ve had has been feral, or stray, dumped, or hard to rehome etc, and as such usually not neutered until adulthood, by which point the males are more likely to be fickle/ v independent/ prefer to be well fed nomads than lap cats. So more of the girls have been affectionate than the boys.
If I just judge it on other peoples cats, I don’t think there’s any difference.

sunshineandshowers40 · 25/06/2022 22:33

We have a male cat and he never sits on our lap. Happy being near us but not too close! Likes strokes on his own terms!

violetbunny · 25/06/2022 22:34

I think it's so individual, just like people.

I have one of each. Boycat is a giant mama's boy, he's incredibly affectionate towards me but terrified of anyone else. His sister is also just as affectionate towards me, but is super friendly and head boops everyone who comes to our house Smile

My boy cat is ridiculous

JoanOgden · 25/06/2022 22:53

My female cat is also ridiculous Grin

If you get a Siamese, you are guaranteed loving affection and conversation from males and females. They adore their humans 🙂

My males have been more affectionate. Current girl loves fuss but isn’t as forward.

RollOnWinter · 25/06/2022 23:18

I've had males and females over the 42 years of having cats, and they've all been quite different.
Some were not very affectionate, others were quite clingy. My favourite cat has been the one I've had for the past 11 years. He's now about 20, and he loves cuddling up with me.

RoundaboutRacer · 25/06/2022 23:32

I think in general going by other peoples cats and looking at visitors with my own boys are more affectionate.

But. The most affectionate (and best) pet that's ever been in the whole wide world was my beautiful female cat (sadly PTS during lockdown)

She was a rescue and it took me a long time to get her to trust me. But once she did she loved me with every hair on her fluffy body.

Our newer shy rescue boy is going that way too though now so I think it's often that you get back what you put in and if you're a rescue cat's "trusted human" then although they might hide from strangers forever they're very affectionate with you.

kittenkipping · 25/06/2022 23:42

I think it's more individual personality, and socialisation. My first cat (a girl) was aloof and on her own terms - but she was brought up in an adult only, left alone for 8 hours + a day outdoor cat. My current three, are all affectionate and cuddly (although 2 lap cats and 1 who just wants pets and carrying a LOT) but I'm at home, and they grew up with children (who don't respect a kittens personal space and boundaries in the way an adult only house would- ie they got picked up, snuggled, stroked when they're sleeping etc from a young young age) and they're indoor cats.

I have a boy and a girl, girl is much more affectionate and climbs up my chest so she can wrap herself around my face!

mistermagpie · 25/06/2022 23:51

Males in my experience. My female cats have always be excellent hunters and a bit more typically 'cat like' in that they will enjoying being with you but not 'on' you.

My two male bengals (one sadly passed now) have been the biggest lap cats ever.

Biscuitandacuppa · 25/06/2022 23:58

My cats are all very affectionate. I have three black/black and white cats. One boy and two girls. My boy cat loves me, adores my daughter and approaches family who visit for cuddles. The smaller girl cat loves everyone and is a proper lap cat. She particularly loves my mum and has had to be restrained to allow her to sit down before she dashes over for cuddles and a long sleep on her knee! My third girl is more of a princess, she’s mainly a house cat by choice but spends all night trying to sleep on my chest and all day sat behind me on the sofa.
The girls are sisters and my boy cat is the same age, they’ve all been with me since they were kittens and raised the same way.

SallyWD · 25/06/2022 23:59

I've had male and female cats. They've all been extremely affectionate and I've formed a close bond with all. Because of this I just can't imagine a cat NOT being affectionate.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 26/06/2022 00:02

Boys ime, especially once neutered.

That said my female cat has got more affectionate as she's got older.

evilharpy · 26/06/2022 00:03

We have had a male and a female (the latter now sadly deceased). She was more affectionate but stroppier. He is far far more placid and willing to put up with abuse from small children and has never sulked a day in his life. She liked laps, he prefers head boops.

Hellocatshome · 26/06/2022 00:12

We have 3 cats, the one you would expect to be the most affectionate as we got her as a tiny kitten never been harmed in any way by a human wants nothing to do with us. The one you would expect to hate humans as he was dumped by the bins with several injuries is absolutely besotted with me he is almost permanently attached to me in some way.

jd88123 · 26/06/2022 00:16

Boys are definitely more affectionate in my experience. I have 5 and the boys love the cuddles. The girls not so much except one kitten.

easyday · 26/06/2022 08:57

We have one of each, Maine Coons. The male is very affectionate but not a lap cat. He loves having his tummy rubbed etc. and will occasionally stretch out on my daughter on the sofa. The female is more aloof (doesn't particularly like being picked up) but will generally come and sit on your lap, or by your side or if on the sofa by your shoulder.
I've had several moggies in the past, mainly female, and some are very affectionate, some not.

lollipoprainbow · 26/06/2022 09:05

My boy is the most loving, loyal affectionate cat ! Loves company.

Shinyandnew1 · 26/06/2022 09:10

We have had 7 cats over the years. The boys have been much more soppy and friendly than the girls.

BE22 · 26/06/2022 09:35

Different breeds so this is a factor to consider, could be why they differed but my 2 male cats I'd say want to be with us more than the female cat I had growing up. The boys are Ragdolls though. They are known to be a very soppy, affectionate and loving breed

Boys.

All my best cats have been boys.

Mine too!
Have two boys at the moment, one moggy and one Maine coon.
The moggy is the most affectionate cat ever.
He loves a wander but always comes to his name being called.
