Inadvertently made my cat a giant litter tray...

I have put bark down in the corner of my garden, intended to be the kids play corner. Instead, I've created a giant litter tray for my cat to crap in! Ideas for how I stop him?! My best idea at the moment is super soaker... But that seems a little harsh! He doesn't have an actual litter tray, which I could get if I thought he'd use it in preference... He's always gone outside but is 14 now and in the house a lot more. Any other ideas appreciated.

It’s belated karma for all the years your cat has shat all over someone else’s garden.

Jeyes fluid round the edges will stop him.

Jeyes fluid is toxic to cats

I'd get an actual litter tray, my cats an indoor cat now as she's 18. But in her younger days, she used to go outside, come back in to use the litter tray...then go back outside again to continue on with her day.

Looking back perhaps it was some sort of power play and she liked the fact I'd have to clean it......

They do like their own toilets though. X

Possibly true, although I'm sure he's been crapping in my garden all along too. But in the soil. I agree though if I got a cat now I would start with a litter tray. 14 years ago I didn't think about this.

So introducing a litter tray now... How do I do that? I've tried before and shut him in, and he toileted on the floor... Repeatedly.

I'd just introduce it first to the house and not make too much off it alongside him going out....he'll make his own way to it sniff it a few times play in it once or twice and you'll probably find the first time he uses it is at night time when he's inside and really has to go!

My cat has three clean litter trays and still prefers to poo in my garden. She actually sleeps on the one with bark bordering the grass and prefers the soft soil in the raised bed... what was once my edible herb garden Sad

He probably doesn’t mind going outside now it’s warm but at 14 surely he’ll prefer a tray in the winter?

Tell him it’s not for him and to not use the tray under any circumstances.

"How do I stop him?"

You don't!

Besides how can you deny a cat as cute ad that anything.
