Emergency vet - my cat is an arsehole

Yesterday I got up as normal and my beloved Midnight was asleep on a kitchen chair. Didn’t so much as open an eye as I pottered around so I gave her a bit of a poke and no response. I had to really shake her awake and even then she was lethargic and didn’t want to move. She didn’t glance at her breakfast so I got one of her treat sticks which she ate out of my hand while laying in my arms.

It was all horrendous, she was just not responding to me, so dashed her to the emergency vet. She didn’t even meow in the car, though she did eat the dreamies I put in the carrier. £120 later, nothing wrong with her and the vet concluded that she fancied a lie in and likes treats for breakfast. My cat is a small furry arsehole.

😂

She's well and truly played you there! Glad she is OK.

MasterOfOne · 02/06/2022 07:51

Really glad Midnight is OK, but this really made me smile 😃

Totally agree, cats are arseholes, but sooo cute too

sashh · 02/06/2022 07:56

LOL

AnnaMagnani · 02/06/2022 07:59

Oh dear. Silkycat once wound up DH and DM, apparently she wouldn't eat and was critically ill.

I got an emergency vet appointment, left work 100 miles away, drove home and discovered a cat who would eat, just only treats and thought she was on to a good thing 😂

Took her to the vet to be safe, nothing wrong, vet suggested mirtazepine as an appetite stimulant.

2 days of that we abandoned it as she had turned into a non-stop eating machine.

For a cat that wasn't eating, she sure put on a load of weight that week.

You have my sympathy OP. I have one like that. Many pounds have been needlessly spent on vet fees. Solidarity!

Ratonastick · 02/06/2022 08:11

She’s currently snoring on my lap without a care in the world. We both know she played me like a Stradivarius. And we both know that some time, somewhere at some unknown future date she will do it again and I will fall for it. It’s a good job the bloody little ingrate is cute.

Just know that most of us would have done exactly the same as you op. They rule us. They know it we know it. It's their world we just live in it. 😁

Amrapaali · 02/06/2022 08:17

Snort!! Sorry OP Midnight is an evil genius 😂

Cracking start to the Jubilee weekend (Just 120 quid lighter)

RandomMess · 02/06/2022 08:18

My cats are DISGUSTED if I wake them up too early 🙄 they love their big overnight sleep.

Yep cats are arseholes.

cushioncovers · 02/06/2022 08:52

I think we need a photo op.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/06/2022 10:29

When I had to call the emergency vet for Cheddar, I discovered that you can do a video call for £25. Rather than face to face for mega bucks. The little bugger made a miraculous recovery half way through the call. 🙄

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/06/2022 10:42

Definitely need a photo - your cat sounds to be managing you excellently (although slightly at risk of becoming the cat that cried wolf?)

I certainly would have done the same! 😂

See user name…
This particular cat was rushed to the vets with a horrendous crying and refusal to use a back leg; I was convinced it was broken; hit by a car, kicked by thugs - we live incredibly rurally, where I thought the thugs had come from I have no clue.

Emergency appointment, x-rays etc…

One large bill later and the vet concluded “cat cramp or pins and needles” having seen said cat come round from x-ray sedation, stretch and use all limbs… absolute asshat.

Ratonastick · 02/06/2022 19:37

Just come back to the thread after a day out. I forgot the cat tax so here is Midnight being a sleepy arsehole.

One of my boys came in limping badly, refusing to put his back leg on the floor, with blood on his fur (not his) so I got an emergency appointment a couple of hours later. He limped the whole time, then we got to the vet, she put him on the floor to see how he walked and he promptly jumped back into the bench. Using the back leg he couldn't walk on. We concluded there wasn't much wrong with him....

These stories 😁

PupInAPram · 03/06/2022 08:01

Well played Midnight, well played 🤣

RandomMess · 03/06/2022 08:12

I'd be assuming that Midnight's large belly is the issue and a diet is required to prevent a repeat event 😉

Awww that looks like fluff 😍

PupInAPram · 03/06/2022 08:42

@Solosunrise I agree, he looks like a floof-ball, not a chunk.

MintyMoocow · 03/06/2022 08:51

Yep, our kitten fell off the sofa and yowled, kept yowling when DH picked her up. DH, in tears rushed off to the emergency vets.. £200 to be told she was a complete malingerer.

RandomMess · 03/06/2022 11:28

Oh the 😉 was to indicate I was joking!

titchy · 03/06/2022 11:37

Did you try putting flea drops on her neck? That guarantees mine will scarper pronto however ill they may be feeling....
