Cat meowing outside neighbours house every evening

Our rescue has started going next door and meowing outside their door until they open up. He's friends with their cat (they used to hate each other but seem to get on now). He goes at the exact time every evening and they usually text to let us know he's outside, or got in and refusing to leave.

At the same time, he's become really moody with us. No head bumps, no pets, etc but is still wanting food and is here at night and during the day to sleep. I'm really sad because he's not affectionate with us but I've seen videos of him at their house where he seems so attentive ! Little bugger.

Our house is a calm one and we dote on him so I don't know why he's suddenly decided he prefers next door. Am I being petty? How can I win him back? I've tried dreamies and his fave smelly sticks but nothing wins him over. He just scoffs the treats then goes next door again.

Do you live next to @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats ?

How galling. That’s cats for you - ungrateful buggers! Could you ask your neighbours to try not letting him in for a few nights?

Cleanmean · 05/05/2022 21:03

Oh they've tried. But as soon as they open the door to pop to the shops he runs into their hallway and has a good nosy around. I hope they don't think we're mean to him.

He's probably looking for his little friend, but it's still quite galling tbh.

Maybe he needs a friend at home to snuggle with? It’s annoying though and they should be putting him out again every time he does it. Cats are so contrary.

Cleanmean · 05/05/2022 21:10

I've thought about a second cat but he's quite territorial and can get into a mood if a cat even dares to walk across our garden. Maybe he's lonely, but the last thing I want is to get another rescue then have to return it because our cat is anxious or stressed. Tbh we'd love another cat but it'd be just our luck we get another cat that really doesn't like us!

Also, I don't think we can afford to pay for 2 sets of petplan / insurance at the moment.

Cats are fickle unfortunately!

Our neighbors cat is asleep on my bed as we speak. They are ungrateful, disloyal buggers.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/05/2022 14:13

Your neighbours shouldn’t be letting him in. He’s not a tiger, he can’t refuse to leave, 😹 he’s a small portable pussy cat.

🤣

Cats just do as they please, I'm afraid. My young male cat disappears for hours sometimes. My neighbour has told me that he visits them and I'm OK with that. I've given up trying to impose my rules on the little blighters 😁

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 06/05/2022 16:09

Could we have a photo of the little blighter please. Just in case you are my NDN 😹..
Put him next to this one in an identity parade.

Can ndn cat come to your house to play instead

OnaBegonia · 06/05/2022 16:25

He's friends with their cat
this made me smile, imagining the cats knocking the door for their wee pal to come out 😍

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 06/05/2022 17:25

We had a cat that would sit on the windowsill every night at 8pm and meow till our cat went out.
He literally came to knock on for my cat to go out with him!
I bloody love cats 🐱

Our cats friend used to sit under the bedroom window waiting for her to come out then they would be out for hours doing important stuff together or sunbathing
