Last weds, our cat (8yrs) had a dental and had a lot of teeth out. She'd been struggling to eat for a while and that hasn't really improved since (mainly because she thinks it will hurt) she was having liquid painkiller to help.

She went out Saturday evening and has refused to come in since. We saw her Sunday morning and I tried to grab her (stupid and I regret it) and failed and then didn't see her again until Monday evening when she appeared at the window but ran when I opened it. She was seen again at midnight last night and then again this morning at 10 when I tried to coax her in but she's gone again Sad

We've left food out (smelly mackerel and tuna) but it's not been touched and her litter tray is outside (from when we thought she was properly lost) and I'm currently cooking a chicken in the hope the smell will entice her in. But she's not interested in food or us and I'm at my wits end with it now having run out of ideas.

I don't think a trap will work because food isn't interesting to her (and if it failed it would make things worse). She's always been a nervous/skittish cat but this has just tipped her over the edge and she just wont come anywhere near us now.

The back door is open and I'm hoping that she'll just wander in but other than that, I just don't know what to do anymore. It feels like the more proactive I am, the more skittish she gets.

What else can I do? do anyone have any ideas?

Snozzlemaid · 10/03/2022 00:02

Excellent news.

Beamur · 10/03/2022 00:13

If her mouth is still sore try lick e lix to tempt her to eat. Glad she's back home.
One of my cats is also skittish and decided.not to come home for a few days. still delighted to see me outside. I popped her in a box and took her home and she's been fine ever since!

ilovesooty · 10/03/2022 00:22

So glad for you that she's back.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/03/2022 07:08

Wonderful news!

Traps do work and they aren’t too distressing for the cat. (I caught the same cat several times)

Give her loads of pampering. I’m sure she is glad to be home.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/03/2022 07:24

Is she happy to be home?

AndrewPreview · 10/03/2022 07:54

Thanks everybody, she was very happy last night, lots of purring. Eaten loads, had her meds etc. Definitely lost weight but otherwise OK. I'm so pleased with the trap, there's no way we would have got her back otherwise Smile

Here's a pic of the trouble maker, (not from last night, she's still a bit camera shy)

Oh I am pleased. I half expected her to be a Tortie.

I half expected her to be a tortie

Me too! A very tortie attitude, bolshie and pig headed.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/03/2022 13:25

Torties prefer the term "assertive"

Our B&W girl is so pushy and I've had a Bengal so it's not like I'm not used to feisty cats. God forbid you roast a chicken, she corners my 6' 3" dh in the kitchen to get treats.

Unlike the bengal she eats and sleeps all day and dh never has to go out at midnight in the car looking for her.

Just seen this thread. Am so glad she’s home - she’s gorgeous.

Love the power of the LT board - great advice and support.

Fiftythreepercent · 11/03/2022 06:19

Was following the thread, opened the new page and

Well we caught A cat... just not our cat!

Sorry but I laughed out loud. Glad she’s back and happy to be home

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/03/2022 07:25

Hooray! Glad to hear she has forgiven you and rejoined the family fold.

Mumsgirls · 11/03/2022 15:40

Funny about their rep. My tortie years ago was the gentlest soul ever and clever, a rescue. Never a hiss spit growl or bite or scratch, never forgot her
