Next door neighbours dcat using our door as a scratching post and damaging it

Anybody got any ideas on what to do? Door has obvious scratch marks on it and he's doing it most days.

Could you put a metal cover on the bottom bit?

I would clean it to remove the cats scent, then cover it with tinfoil temporarily as they hate the stuff. Hopefully that will put it off.

Double sided sticky tape. Doesn't have to be there permanently- a week or two to break the habit.

Wash it down with lemon juice

Hide behind with a water pistol.
He won't be back.

Don't want to use a water pistol he's actually a lovely very friendly cat I just want him to stop scatching the door
