7 month old kitten wanting to go outside, how to introduce this?

Hi my 7 month old female is wanting to go outside, she is microchipped and spayed.

Our male cat goes out but I'm unsure how to begin to introduce it to the new kitten. We have a big garden, not busy roads particularly, surrounded by houses and facing a big field and trees.

Today we went outside and she came outside slowly and pottered round the garden, now she's desperate to go out again. Any tips besides litter outside and in the beginnning feed her after she's returned, Thanks!

I think what you're doing sounds fine. Don't carry her out there, let her down on the ground to mooch about and leave her scent so that she can smell her way back.

Have treats (dreamies) on hand to encourage her back in every so often. I keep dreamies in a tin which I shake, my kitten knows the noise and comes running in.

She’ll be absolutely fine! It’s scary when they first go out, and sometimes they might roam a little further and be gone for a few hours (or even days like one of my kittens haha). I would be with her in the garden for the first few outings and as pp said, give treats/food to encourage her to come back. Good luck Smile

I'm at this stage but I'm so scared to let them out in case they don't come back! We've tried a couple of times and they went straight into next doors garden (fence fell down in the winds). Biscuit shaking did nothing as he was enjoying himself so much. Have a fairly busy road nearby so don't want to lose them. DD goes into a massive panic on the 2 occasions we've let them out. Any tips? I've only ever had older rescue cats before so this is all new to me!

We've been letting our cat out for the last week or so now, she loves it, she doesn't venture too far.

The first few times we went outside with her and called her back intermittently, now she goes out by herself, we made sure it was before a meal.

Good luck!
