As I explained on the 'cats looking out of windows' thread, Celia Hammonds has a 3 weekly column in the local paper. One (on Zouma of course) is just about to go to press, so the next one will be due out a week or so before mothers' day so, on the back of my thread about lilies, I thought I'd do a piece to warn about mothers' day bouquets.

But, as always, we need an illustrative photo. So, fellow citizens of The Litter Tray, hit me with your photos of cats sitting next to bouquets/vases of flowers; sniffing bouquets, whatever.

Thank you!

As you can see even when I put them in random places to keep the cats away they manage to get at them!

No pictures to offer as my cats bite the heads off any flowers they come across so I have to shut any vases away!

But great to hear you are raising awareness of the lilies issue and looking forward to seeing more photos on the thread.

thecatneuterer · 19/02/2022 07:25

I'm enjoying the photos. @ColonelNobbyNobbs Your cats REALLY like flowers don't they! That last photo is great for the purposes of the article.

And while I'm here, I don't suppose anyone has photos of cats sitting next to/on suitcases? That's for a future piece on what to do about your cat when you go on holiday. There are loads of stock images online, but you have to pay to use them of course.

You’re welcome to use these of my eldest boy Bob with the vase, and the late Pooster, silver tabby of dreams and my first baby, who departed for the rainbow bridge in 2017.

I thought tulips were highly toxic to cats?

Volterra · 19/02/2022 11:38

This is our rescue cat who was a much loved monster at times and sadly no longer with us.

thecatneuterer · 19/02/2022 11:43

@YetAnotherSpartacus There was a lot of discussion of this sort of thing on the lilies thread? Lots of plants and flowers are listed as toxic to cats, but it's really only lilies that, in practice, kill. According to Google tulips can cause vomiting and, if very large amounts are eaten (what that means I don't know - a couple of leaves? a whole flower? A couple of flowers daily?) it can cause liver disease.

So yes, tulips aren't great, but they have to be actually eaten to cause harm, unlike lilies, and they are very unlikely to kill.

Ignore the random question mark.
