My cat likes to snuggle in bed in the morning, but keeps her distance the rest of the time…

…just wondering why. She’s friendly & likes to be in the same room as us, but is not keen on being stroked & definitely doesn’t want to sit on our laps, but comes for a cuddle every morning & is super affectionate for a brief time. She snuggles right in & sometimes gives us a wash. It’s not about food - she’s already been fed by then. Is she just cold Grin?

Here’s a pic - we love her lots even though she’s a bit stand offish

I've had number three for almost three years this is the first year he has began requesting pets he comes over stands on us and boops us in the head has a few tickles and runs away

I had my girl for nearly a year before she sat on or near me or DH.
Now she is always angling to sit on one of us.

It might just be time.

I have one like this. You're lucky she comes for a cuddle in the morning, ours hates cuddling, stroking or being picked up.

If we play with her, she'll reward us with a head butt. It's just how she is, luck of the drawer.

Interrobanger · 11/02/2022 22:02

One of my cats is the same.

All over me at night. Will lick my neck and ears, makes biscuits on my chest and snuggles right in. During the day she doesn’t want to know me.

Such weird kitty behaviour. Her brother is super affectionate all the time.

SagelyNodding · 11/02/2022 22:08

Mine is the same. Full of love every morning, then ignores us for most of the day! He's just surprised me by coming to sit on my lap for the first time in weeks! I can only assume it's because I've been out until 10pm and have come home smelling of dog so he's reasserting his territory!

HawkinsMiddleSchool · 11/02/2022 22:08

@Interrobanger same here! It’s like having 2 different cats.

What a beautiful cat!

Ours are rescues, we've had them for three years and only this week one of them came on to my lap for the first time and sat there purring for about five minutes. I felt honoured indeed! The other will only get close to dd1 and spends her entire life on her bed.

lljkk · 11/02/2022 22:10

Fickle cats -- yup. That they are.
They can change. After years suddenly mellow or enjoy laps that were shunned before.

Your cat is beautiful, OP.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/02/2022 22:13

It's probably because you're lying down in bed and no 'threat'

I agree that she's going to eventually get cuddlier

Lorddenning1 · 11/02/2022 22:22

I have 2 cats who are sisters, had them for 5 months, one is super affectionate and loves me, follows me around, gives me kisses, head boops and always want to be with me. Her sister is the opposite she only loves her sister and nobody else, she suckles on her and sits next to her and purs, random points in the day I get a black cat run up to me, head boops me, purrs kisses and I think aww you really love me don't you and then I realise it's the cat that doesn't normally do this (they both look the same) then when I make a big fuss that she is giving me attention, that's it she is off and doesn't come near me again, I can't work her out.

@Lorddenning1 love that photo!

Seems I’m not the only one with a changeable cat Smile

We've got a cat with a downstairs personality (aloof, can't touch her at all, never comes near us, doesn't purr) and an upstairs personality (playful, can stroke her, comes & lies on you in bed, purring & kneading).
If I try to stroke her downstairs, husband will remind me - she's not upstairs, you know.

Lorddenning1 · 11/02/2022 22:49

@HawkinsMiddleSchool thank you, I love this picture too, it looks like I have set it up so they can take a cute photo but all 3 were just sat like, they all fight on who can sit on that blanket Grin

violetbunny · 12/02/2022 08:23

One of mine likes to get under the covers with me in the morning, purrs, makes biscuits on my chest, then tucks herself against my stomach and goes to sleep.
She only does it when she's cold or wet, so it's seasonal! Won't cuddle up any other time either.

Madcats · 12/02/2022 09:41

My two cats are "needy" at the best of times.
I often wake up and spend 30 minutes propped up in bed, reading with a cuppa.

First one, and now the other, consider this to be an invitation to crawl under the duvet and squeeze at least part of their body under my bent legs.

It will be interesting to see what happens when it warms up again.
