My new cat growls but quite happily laying on me?

I rescued a lovely old cat today he is so sweet he is happily laying on me but every now and again he lets out small low growl. But he's free to leave my lap but he's snuggled in lovely. Is it just because he's settling in?

Aww he’s lovely! Could he be in pain?

Are there any other signs he’s not happy, like flicky tail or his ears flat? My old cat used to make weird noises when she was purring that might have sounded aggressive if you didn’t know her.

Nope no other signs like a flicky tail ect he's literally cosied on my belly.

Might be worth a word with your vet, just to be sure, but he might just have some weird habits - they’re strange creatures sometimes, luckily they’re cute enough to get away with it 😁

Boycat sort of grunts when he's blissed out, might it be that kinf of thing?

I also know that the smaller bully breeds of dogs grumble very much like a growl when they are supremely happy!
