Do your cats get an occasional odd flea? Does it matter?

When we got our kittens in Summer they had fleas and we battled them hard. We now get something on prescription every month and I think they don't really suffer with fleas... but sort of once a month we find an odd flea. Either on one of the cats or their blanket. Is this normal? Do I need to panic? Thanks

Well it’s not great as if you see one flea there will most certainly be more, both on the cat and in your house. The cat will be irritated and you could end up with bites. It doesn’t sound like you have got them under control. You need a really good household spray from the vets as well as the regular flea treatment. ( and make sure to keep on top of working too as the two go hand in hand).

Thanks, I think it's a flea and worm treatment in one. We have done a lot of spraying the house etc etc. We only ever see one flea at a time.

I reckon the ones you are seeing will be from eggs that are in the carpet they will be hatching now that the central heating is on more often. The best thing you can do is vaccum twice a day, thoroughly, and get a can of Indorex, it treats a whole house. If the stuff you're getting is from the vets it should be good stuff but occasionally they need something extra to get it under control so perhaps give the vets a ring.

If its only the odd one then once it has contact with/bites the cat then it should die if you are using a regular flea treatment
