Would it be ok to leave a 12 week old kitten alone for an evening?

We recently bought a lovely kitten and he's setting in really well (we've no other pets btw).

A couple of weeks ago I booked tickets for me, DH and our two teenage DCs to see the new James Bond film at 6pm on 1st October, when our kitten will be just over 12 weeks old.

It's a pretty long film so we're likely to be out of the house for about four hours, from 5.30 to 9.30pm.

Would this be ok at such a young age, or should one of us forgo our ticket and stay behind? I didn't really think this through when I booked!

It will be fine and actually a few hours alone can be great for them to explore in peace, just leave plenty of food and water

Can you test the kitten out beforehand? So leave him for 1 hour first and see how he gets on? Then you’ll know how he is on his own.

Mine was left home alone all day at that age.

Honestly - they're not dogs. They can be left just fine Smile

I would make sure, though, that you leave her in a very safe space so she can't escape or get herself wedged behind something!

Totally fine.

Cats don't suffer being left alone like a puppy would.

Yes it will be fine, we had to leave a 10 week old on the second day we had her from 8.30am-4.30pm, we were lucky that a neighbour called in to feed her but she was fine.

Totally fine, kitten is presumably effectively left alone over night for much longer whilst you all sleep….

Thanks for your replies! I've never owned a cat to I was a bit nervous.

Ah…lucky you! Yes, kitten will be fine as previous posters have said…good advice about leaving in a safe space though. Always amazing to see the spaces little kittens can get into ! 😁

Yes - I said what I did about safe spaces as mine once managed to crawl behind the skirting boards and got herself wedged behind the washing machine Grin

We could hear her crying but she clearly couldn't figure out how to get back out (or she was too scared to) - DH had to rearrange the kitchen, pull the washing machine out and rescue her lol.
