Which insurers are best when there is a claim?

We are looking at pet insurance for our new 10yo DCat, currently healthy.

We want an insurer who will be good to deal with in case of a claim, not necessarily the cheapest.

Any recommendations, good or badf?

Also is there any point to lifetime cover? Won't they just whack up the premium anyway if an illness is ongoing?

Bought by Many were good when we claimed - all done online. If you don't get lifetime cover then they wont cover anything you claim for in the following years

Toddlerteaplease · 13/08/2021 15:52

Tesco have been great and I've had huge claims!

TeenMinusTests · 14/08/2021 09:49

Thank you both.

Petplan have always paid out promptly for us.

Plump82 · 14/08/2021 16:41

Tesco for sure. They were brilliant with my old cat. Just make sure you pick the right level ie life time cover.

Katieweasel · 14/08/2021 16:47

Tesco are amazing. Huge claim right at the start of covid. Not one question. Paid in full with 5 days of putting in the claim.

Another vote for Bought By Many. We have an FIV positive cat and they paid out with no quibble at all and very quick.

Thecatisboss · 14/08/2021 16:51

Petplan have been very good with our cats ongoing kidney failure 8+ years we've been claiming now (get whole life cover)

juneybean · 14/08/2021 16:52

Petplan pay direct to my vet so no waiting around for my money back.

TeenMinusTests · 15/08/2021 10:17

Thank you. (DH says he's having trouble finding companies to quote on whole life as she is already 10.)

I've got Bought by Many and have just made my first claim online and it was easy to do.

My boy is FIV positive and they were a lot cheaper than Pet Plan.

Mpsister · 16/08/2021 14:43

More Than were great and paid out thousands for my cat's treatment without question. They do whack up the premium though if you make a claim. Pet Plan are more expensive but don't put the premium up based on the claim history

Ibizafun · 18/08/2021 23:28

A week after we insured our new kitten with Petplan he was diagnosed with FIP, which is terminal. Petplan paid 12k over the year for a drug which has not even been liscenced yet in the UK and which cured our cat. No questions asked. Amazing.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 19/08/2021 09:26

My first Bought By Many claim was settled in 48 hours.

Sadly it was only £2.31.

TeenMinusTests · 21/08/2021 16:20

Thank you all so much. I think we are going with PetPlan as DH rang them up and because already covered by the rehoming plan they will do lifetime for her.

Direct line were brilliant when we made a claim although that was probably 8 years ago

Wooollffff · 21/08/2021 16:36

I would check the policy very carefully. I had a few weeks free from Cats Protection but they wouldn’t cover teeth for example.
Cats Protection actually advised me to consider accident only as my cat has FIV and many insurers won’t pay out for any illness. My daughter was recommended Bought by Many by vet colleagues and they paid out £1000 for dental treatment despite it being associated with FIV and the cat having previous treatment on his teeth when he was in the custody of Cats Protection.

Wooollffff · 21/08/2021 16:37

Sorry was referring to Petplan - message was for OP

MoonbeamSprinkles · 21/08/2021 16:44

Another vote for tesco.

We have the premium plan and thank god I do as one of my cats has spent £14 in the past two years in vets bills. They paid out without a peep.

MoonbeamSprinkles · 21/08/2021 16:45

I obviously meant 14k not just £14

TeenMinusTests · 29/08/2021 18:37

Thank you. For good or ill we have gone with PetPlan.
