Do your Dcats make eye contact with you?

Just curious. One of my Dcats (tuxedo cat) makes eye contact a lot but the other (white cat) doesn't. I have read that making eye contact is aggressive in "cat language", but tuxedo cat is definitely not being aggressive - he looks as if he is trying to understand me.

So, I am interested to know about all the other Litter Tray cats Smile.

Yes! My cats stare at me. It's like who's going to blink first! It's suppose to mean they love you.

Girlcat does, while on the back of the sofa having belly strokes or when requesting strokes etc.

Both do the slow blink thing.

Boycat stares at me, with a look not unlike the one Ollie gives to his mama. However the difference is the almost frightening lack of a single brain cell behind those eyes!

One does it alot with lots of slow blinking he gazes at me sometimes like he adores me the others will but not as much as him he genuinely loves his people

Yes mine seeks out eye contact, giving me big puppy dog eyes when wanting a fuss. He rubs his face all over me etc. 100% not aggressive. The other one slow blinks with me.

After reading that staring is confrontational but blinking is loving, I sit and blink at her and she sits and blinks back before wanting stroking and a lap cuddle.

So, they were asleep in the sunshine in the living room and I had to prod them a little to make them open their eyes and sit up. Tuxedo cat was very happy for me to make eye contact with him and he kept my gaze. I tried slow blinking at him. He wasn't quite sure what to make of that, but might possibly have responded a little.

White cat wouldn't really make eye contact (but did roll over for an extended tummy rub, so can't have felt that I was being aggressive).

I will persevere with the blinking and it makes me happy to think of all the Mumsnet cat people blinking at their cats and the cats blinking back Smile and lovely to see all the cats!

Silkiecat blinks at me, she will look at me but looking down as well.

My boy does, loads. He's always gazing at me with loving looks. He's a worried soul and a rescue so I think he's just making sure I'm still here. New kitten looks at me, laughs in my face, and rushes out again to carry on catching stuff in the garden.

He gazes into my eyes and blinks very slowly and I melt Smile

I'm pretty sure tuxedo boy either thinks he's human or we're cats. We have quite long conversations and he definitely has different inflections of his 'voice'.

T'other one can't miaow & just kind of does 'meh' or opens his mouth & nothing comes out.

My departed boy would gaze into the depths of my soul !

His younger brother (who is 11, for context) will sit and stare/gaze at me. Funnily enough, he’s doing it right now,

I’ve always tried the slow blink, half eye look with them. Neither of them have ever returned the favour.

But both of them did/do continue to be happy with me gazing right back at them. Maybe they can tell by the micro-expressions on my fac3 that I think they’re the best thing since sliced bread.

I still use the don’t stare/slow blink rule when I encounter cats in other households. And if I ever get a new cat, I will still keep that in mind.
