New little friend arrived yesterday!

The kitten is actually being way more confident than I expected? I knew it had been handled a lot by kids in its previous home and it's not too young (11 weeks) but honestly it was exploring within 15 minutes of arriving! It used its litter box and ate pretty quickly too. I mean it was skittish but didn't hide!

And last night it snuggled up into DHs legs and had a snooze whilst we were watching TV!

Its having a rest beside me on the couch right now!

It did meow downstairs for a little while after we went to bed which was kinda heart-rending but actually it was probably only for about 5 minutes before it stopped, lol. And it was shattered so no doubt went to sleep pretty quickly.

It's not letting us touch it yet but that's to be expected and I keep telling the kids it's normal (all they want is cuddles).

I think it's going really well! 😍

Aww. Does he have a name?

AlfonsoTheMango · 04/08/2021 08:58

Adorable!

ElspethFlashman · 04/08/2021 09:04

No because they think it's a boy but until we get to the vet tomorrow morning, we don't know for sure!

How lovely s/he is 😀

The last two cats I had came from homes where there were children and both walked into the house liked they owned it. We kept some rooms off limit but they settled in really well

ElspethFlashman · 04/08/2021 11:18

This morning he/she has slept all morning which I think is a good sign.

And the kids have veerrrrry gently stroked his head and he hasn't even opened his eyes or stirred. So proud of him!

I was wondering if kitty had any say in declaring kitty's preferred pronoun as 'it'. :)

SquirryTheSquirrel · 04/08/2021 12:10

If you can get a pic of kitty's nether regions, we might be able to sex your new friend for you.

ElspethFlashman · 04/08/2021 13:29

The kids have broken its scratching post, they climbed on the platform and the post snapped as it was just cardboard inside. Hmm

It's wobbly now but hopefully it'll still be OK for the cat to scratch at least. Grrrrrrr!

Is it your first cat ? We got 2 kittens last week and they settled in so quickly. We have had cats before but never get over how tiny and crazy they are at first ! We had names but aren't 100% set on them yet.

Worriesandwobbles · 04/08/2021 15:54

In love with these little faces already !

@Worriesandwobbles that first cat is just like our Colin

ElspethFlashman · 04/08/2021 19:32

I had lots of outdoor cats when young but this is my first time with a proper indoor cat.

Its snoozing loads out in the open, I think it feels safe. And it licked me! Full on grooming!

And weirdly I had a snooze beside it and felt really calm? I've been anxious for a week or so but definitely feel much less anxious next to the kitten.

Furbabies are good for the soul x

TheLongRider · 04/08/2021 22:02

Cats are fantastic for mental health. There's something very soothing about a purring cat.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/08/2021 02:41

I think research has proved that cats purring lowers blood pressure etc.

AlfonsoTheMango · 05/08/2021 08:00

What a cutie pie. I'm so glad that your new kitten is having a therapeutic effect on you, @Worriesandwobbles.

ElspethFlashman · 05/08/2021 19:58

OK so he (it's a he!) hasn't moved off the couch in 7 hours. Been snoozing since noon.

Is this normal?!!

OP posts:
hugoagogo · 05/08/2021 20:00

Cats sleep about 70% of the time.Grin

ElspethFlashman · 05/08/2021 20:16

I gave him his dinner about an hour ago and it didn't even glance up!

Hasn't weed or pooed all afternoon!

I expected snoozing but I guess more intermittent?

Worriesandwobbles · 05/08/2021 21:15

They do sleep lots so hopefully he will wake up ravenous and have a good blast of energy. Try not to worry but maybe seek advice if he isn't eating or drinking or still seems very tired by tomorrow morning. x

AlfonsoTheMango · 06/08/2021 08:22

It may mean that he's getting ready to go through a growth spurt. And I agree with @Worriesandwobbles.

ElspethFlashman · 06/08/2021 09:18

Thanks all, he didn't even come into the same room as us last night, just stayed sleeping in the playroom the entire evening.

But this morning is up and about and eating and interacting and seems absolutely fine and is unphased by 2 hyper kids so seems pretty good.

Still not actually touching us on purpose, but definitely not afraid.

Very VERY vocal! Half the time I don't know what it wants! The food is right there!

ElspethFlashman · 06/08/2021 09:19

Have literally no pictures where he's not sleeping lol.

What sweet kitty pix! 😻

Hopeisallineed · 06/08/2021 09:41

Kittens should play a lot too so if he is just constantly sleeping, maybe keep an eye on him. They should have bursts of manic energy in between sleeps.
