Cat being put to sleep at 1pm today - it's the right thing... I just can't thinking is it the right thing to do...

Just that really.
The children are heartbroken and looking at me like I am a murder.

Our cat is 14. He's not fixable, if he was to have palliative care it would only be for a week at the most and he'd have to visit the vets daily. The vet and nurse let us make our decision and said I'd made the best one.

There I go... Justifying to myself why its the right thing to do.

He's been the most brilliant cat. Funny, stroppy, friendly to everyone in the street.

I can't imagine not hearing his cat flap closing and his big meow to let us know he's in and needs food and hugs (in that order).

He sounds like a fabulous cat. Glad he went on his terms.

So sorry for the loss of your DCat. It is so hard to lose them but I’m glad you didn’t have to make the final decision for him because in my experience you always question whether you should have done it sooner/later/at all. Sending Flowers

So sorry for your loss, its the worst part of having fur babies, whether it's an accident, illness or just old age, just remember all the love you gave each other x

So sorry for your loss. Heartbreaking for your whole family.

Hi I had to send my girl over the rainbow bridge this week totally heartbreaking even though it was what needed to be done - sending hugs xx

I feel for you. I lost one of mine last week (22 July) at almost 20. She had had a liver infection which she had recovered from well, but then started throwing up bile. It turned out that the strain on her liver had made her kidneys work overtime and they'd given out. She had a lovely morning at home with the other cats, and the vet came at lunchtime. It has broken my heart.

Maybe in time you will feel like getting another one in the same way. Headrubs to you.

It cost me almost £3000 in total - my partner said I should have just had her put down when she initially became ill and I can't forgive him - but she was recovering well and the vet said she was like a 10 year old not a 20 year old! I was so proud of her.

I already have a new kitten whom I collected on Friday - she is settling in, and it won't replace her but it will ease the grief a little.

Oh Duchess of Disaster - a kitten!! How gorgeous. Hope you are having fun!!

I can now see how much he'd gradually declined and know it was right.

I think I will wait for another cat, we have several animals and I need to find a cat who could be happy and fit in. There will be one out there.... But oh I do miss the company of cat.

Yes you will know when the time is right. My kitten just popped up and it felt right! She is a livewire and so into everything.
