The breeder lied!

We bought a kitten that was meant to be two breeds. I did find it strange that the breeder didnt have a picture of the dad cat but she was adamant that she knew his breed and that our kitten was exactly that. She had sent me loads of videos and pictures of the kittens older siblings so I decided to not doubt her.

We took the kitten home and he is lovely. He has integrated really well and gets on with my children just fine. But we have just taken him to the vets and she has confirmed she doesnt think that the breed we have been told and paid for is true. I was also sceptical and was looking up google images of this other certain breed and the kittens look nothing alike. The breeder seemed so trust worthy! She was really nice and asked to keep in touch and send photos of him as he grows up. I actually chatted to the breeder quite alot and she doesnt come across like the type of person to scam.

What should I do? Should I bother bringing it up with the owner. I'm just really upset as I specially set out for this type of breed as I loved the temperament and characteristics that came with it. I feel cheated with my money but my children have already taken to the kitten and so have I...

puditt report to RSPCA. She’s seriously neglecting her cat and it’s kittens. If she wanted it spayed vets will still spay a cat that is pregnant, many encourage it if the cat gets pregnant at too young an age or if, like the cat you saw, had already had 5 litters. Poor thing.

RSPCA are unlikely to care. Inland revenues probably will.

Unless you get a pedigree certificate and a registration document you are buying a moggy. It’s the paperwork that makes them the breed they are, that’s where the cost of a pedigree cat comes from. The registration, the databases, the paperwork. Paying more than standard moggy price without getting that is silly.

@Puditt Your gorgeous kitten is short haired so can’t have had 2 long haired parents.

Another point for those who wonder why pedigrees can cost so much and state they couldn’t afford it.

Pedigrees will always have some form of generic testing, depending on the breed. For example I have Ragdoll’s and they are tested for HCM and PKD. These conditions also exist in moggies but in pedigrees research has been done to identify the gene and eliminate it. This obviously costs breeders money but gives you a healthier cat.

Pedigree kittens also have to be vaccinated to be registered with GCCF. So they will be older when collected, at least 13 weeks, and have all their vaccines and microchip done. Keeping them longer costs more and you don’t have any vet bills as soon as you collect your kitten.

Covid prices are crazy right now but in general when they are a normal level, by the time you’ve paid the increased cost for a mixed breed that likely isn’t what they say it is and added on vet bills you could have bought the full pedigree version. My Ragdoll’s were £400 each for example, bought in non covid times.

This is Aski, or our dog, as I like to call her. She's a mixed breed but we have no idea with what. She's just so miniature! Apparently her paws and tail are huge but her body is so small. We thought she'd grow into her paws but at 7 months, she was still struggling to reach 2kg. She loves playing fetch with her ball and can respond to questions we ask her. She chirrups when she sees us and when she's happy. She's very gentle and loving but has moments where she goes absolutely crazy; her pupils dilate and she's literally bouncing off the walls. She has the floofiest toes and ears and a big bushy tail. Her personality is unlike any cat we've met. She's a proper entertainer and we've found so much joy in who she is.
Her being a mixed breed makes her who she is. Enjoy your kitty, I'm sure he's so lovely 💕
