I had my darling cat pass away a few weeks ago completely out of the blue due to low blood count.

The vet mentioned there had been an upsurge in cases and this group suggests it is linked to grain free / hypoallergenic food.

Please please share so now one else has to go through this x

I think the RVC have been testing food but no news yet

There is also a theory of not what has contaminated the food but what could of been depleted by the manufacturing process or lack of b (I think) 12

My dog was on a dry food and had a serious gut issue with very low B12, she needed B12 injections and needs her levels testing again soon. So I am wondering if there is a connection.

She was on Tails. I was very happy with the food, their customer service is great, and my dog liked it a lot, but my vet has taken her off dry food completely now due to her health problem. It isn’t one of the ones listed as a concern, I suppose all dry food could have this issues, but that seems unlikely as I would think we would be seeing more very sick pets ?
Her issue is probably totally unrelated, but the B12 made me wonder, I hope that there is more information soon.

Can I also thank OP for this thread. I saw it a while ago and didn’t think too much of it. Went to open a huge new sack of Applaws yesterday and it came into my head to check. And it is the affected batch. Zooplus have given me a refund straight away but I’m slightly surprised they hadn’t contacted me in the first place.

So thanks again, you may have saved our cat from this

@DirtySofa - that’s great that this thread stuck in your mind. I’m really surprised that Zooplus are still allowing anything with this batch number to be sold, surely they should be checking all of their stock and removing it.

I bought the bag several months ago so before the recall - they’re not selling them now.

Ah, ok, that’s good to know. And, again, great that this thread stuck in your mind. I wouldn’t have known about this issue if I hadn’t seen this thread.

Oh no :-(. I wish I hadn't read this - we lost our gorgeous 1 year old kitten last year with the symptoms described. I've only just plucked up the courage to get another and now I'm scared. I hate the thought that it might have been my fault or that it might happen again :-(
