Hi all,

I just wanted to share this Facebook group:

www.facebook.com/groups/806871953557080/?ref=share

I had my darling cat pass away a few weeks ago completely out of the blue due to low blood count.

The vet mentioned there had been an upsurge in cases and this group suggests it is linked to grain free / hypoallergenic food.

Please please share so now one else has to go through this x

I've been lurking overnight....

I'm so very sorry for anyone who has lost their beloved cat or kitten due to this.

I have shared this information to everyone I know and everyone I don't know on fb.

Hoping that it prevents the deaths and suffering of another pud cat.

Sad

I am bumping so that as many people see this as possible. Very sorry for anyone who has lost their lovely cat.

KatyMac · 17/06/2021 23:27

Do we need to change the title to include something about cat food recall and a blood disorder?

Chihuahuacat · 18/06/2021 10:11

@KatyMac good idea, do you know if I can edit?

The latest statement from the RVC today is they are away of 209 cats affected by this.

Do we know if it's only the batch code that has been affected with Ava food? They've all been recalled but if we've used the food with a different batch code should we be worried?

BabbleBee · 18/06/2021 10:44

My cats are on dry only - it’s not listed but still feels concerning! Condolences to all those who’ve lost their feline friends.

Chihuahuacat · 18/06/2021 10:48

@stripes416 it’s all batch numbers for AVA with factory code GB218E5009 x

OP posts:
stripes416 · 18/06/2021 10:50

Oh so that is the factory number, okay thank you

despondentatwork · 18/06/2021 11:01

Mygee-Amazon refunded my bag of Applaws for me this morning. I emailed Customer Services.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 18/06/2021 11:14

@Chihuahuacat no problem.

XelaM · 18/06/2021 13:51

So are all these affected cat foods made in the same factory? It's so horrific, but also so strange that it's across different brands

Chihuahuacat · 18/06/2021 13:52

@XelaM yes, they’re all made in a factory in Lincolnshire owned by Fold Hill Foods so the evidence so far points to an issues at the factory.

OP posts:
Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 18/06/2021 13:54

All the recalled foods are made by a company in Boston (Lincs) called Fold Hill Foods Limited.
Their code (visible on packets they have produced) is GB218E5009.

dementedpixie · 18/06/2021 13:59

@Hannah939

Hi, my cats are on applaws dry chicken and salmon, have stopped feeding immediately but I don’t have the bag to check the batch/factory code. Don’t know whether to go straight to the vets in the morning 😣 has anyone else bought any from zooplus with this code?
The stuff I have from zooplus starts with code FR so I'm assuming it's from France rather than The UK
Caspianberg · 18/06/2021 14:10

We use applaws but from zooplus.de. It says on the packet is made by mpm products Swiss and a ‘Che’ Swiss starting code. Does this mean it’s safe?

Freeholderquestion · 18/06/2021 14:33

Does anyone know if Encore wet food is affected? The list looks like the issue is with certain dry food brands only?
My cats are on Encore wet food and Royal Canin Digestive Care, so hopefully ok.
I'm Sorry for anyone going through this!

HazeyJaneII · 18/06/2021 21:07

This has just popped up on my local town's Facebook page... does anyone know anything about it?

Now wondering whether it's best to avoid dry food altogether?

BlodwinTheThird · 18/06/2021 21:21

Can anyone tell me where on a 7.5kg bag of applaws dry food the code would be? I’ve looked all over but can’t find it…..

dementedpixie · 18/06/2021 21:22

My small bags have printed stuff up near the top at the back

dementedpixie · 18/06/2021 21:24

Just under where it says Applaws
Don't know if its the same on bigger bags

WoofDavid · 18/06/2021 21:42

@BlodwinTheThird this is a screenshot of the code on my (recalled) 7.5kg bag of Applaws Kitten. You'll find it printed vertically on the back of the bag, towards the bottom, between the 1st and 2nd columns of text.
