Please help me
We've done everything you can think of, searched, knocked at neighbours doors, put up posters, checked sheds and garages, called vets. Hired a pet detective who searched with his team for two days.

My question is - has anyone experienced this, a female neutered cat just vanishing?? She never went far from the house because she would like to "check in" with us every few hours. She was a very dog like cat. She has now disappeared without a trace and realistically I think something killed her maybe a fox we have lots in the area. I just don't understand how a cat which doesn't travel vanished without a trace. I'm so heartbroken

Are you doing through physical searches of neighbouring properties?

Statistically there's a high likelihood your cat is close by.

Unfortunately asking neighbours to check their gardens, sheds etc isn't always that effective as generally most people won't be as thorough as you would. Cat may also be quite freaked out, so may not come when called, hence the importance of checking every nook and cranny with your own eyes.

When mine went missing I asked if I could do a thorough search of gardens, under houses etc. I checked every single property within a radius of several blocks. Eventually I found my cat 2 streets away in someone's garden, he had injured his leg and couldn't get back to us.

There was a proper study done on missing cat behaviour which I found extremely helpful, you can read some of the key points here: www.missinganimalresponse.com/lost-cat-behavior/

Just to add, I found mine after 2 weeks of him being missing, so don't give up hope just yet!

Have you reported her to the police. They should gave a lost and found register of oersoan possessions. It comes under that. My sister got hers back that way after 6 weeks. Tip, some police offers just don't care about animals. So ring a second time to check they've written it in the book.

Oh and my sisters cat was two streets down from where we had stopped leafleting. Because you have to stop somewhere. 🤷‍♀️. Good luck.

Oh, yes. The other place which is not so nice is to contact the council sanitation dept. Just in case she was in an accident. They should really scan them but they aren't always that diligent. Hopefully that won't be the case here but better to know. Sorry if that's a bit if a downer. But hopefully she'll come strolling back in and wonder what all the fuss was about.

Hi OP,

Have you tried putting out some dirty washing, contents of hoover or litter tray in your garden?

Worth posting on the local missing pet Facebook groups as you get some very enthusiastic members often who will go out looking for you or make you posters etc.

2 of my cats went missing recently (door left open) I went out flyering and knocking on doors with my 4 week old DD. I posted on NextDoor app and some kind people went looking on my behalf and handed out more leaflets.

One lady rang after a leaflet was put through her door to say my cat was hiding in a bush in her garden and the other cat I found when I went out calling him and shaking dreamies at 5am (easier when it's quieter and nobody is around) and I heard him meowing and found him stuck in a cellar.

It's the worst feeling and although I had a newborn, I didn't sleep at all for the days they were gone, I felt so sick.

Best of luck xx

Cats are inquisitive. They go where they should not. She might have gone into someone's garden shed. I have cats and two of them went missing for over a week - one of them was ten days. They both turned up out of the blue - very thin and demanding food. We decided they had been locked in someone's shed or garage. There could not have been another explanation really.
I hope she turns up x x

We are in the same position right now, our neutered boy has been missing since Friday and has never been gone this long. He’s just under a year old.

We’ve emptied the Hoover, put his litter tray out and some smelly food but all that’s done is attract another cat who thinks they can just come in the house now Hmm. We’ve also put posters up, been door to door and put leaflets through peoples letter boxes. I’m wide awake now and tempted to go and look for him but not sure how safe I’d feel wandering the streets at almost 3am!

We are so sad without him, my children are having a particularly hard time. We’re coming up to day 4 now and it’s really hard not to lose hope, if I knew something had happened to him I think I’d find it easier to accept than the not knowing Sad

Oh i hope your cat turns up! Its heartbreaking. I posted about mine 2ho has started having regular adventures after previously being very clingy. I hope this is the case with your cat! Fingers crossed.

Any sign of your girl @meadow89?

I can totally relate to how you’re feeling. It’s been six days now for us and I just feel devastated. No sign of him at all. Hoping she’s back with you now ❤️

meadow89 · 25/06/2021 15:30

@ChuffingHeck did you find your kitty?

Our baby is still missing.
Thank you all for lovely messages I did read them but then I ran out of steam to reply. I think the shock has passed and the grief was so overwhelming. We think we lost her, and as much as I love the stories about kitties coming back, and will always wait for my baby, i think we may never see her again.

I have a dilemma now. When we still had her we were in a process of getting a second cat. Now I can go and pick the cat up this Sunday and I have mixed feelings. I feel it's too soon but at the same time I want another cat and I don't want to replace my other cat but I always thought I have enough love to give to a second one.

But will me spending time bonding with a second cat take away from the time I should be spend searching for my missing baby? I feel so torn.

Almost 4 weeks now. I just don't understand what happened and why it happened and I miss her so much.

Did she ever come back?

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 06/09/2022 08:35

if they have wondered a bit to far. It will take the houses and people around her a while to notice they are just hanging around. Then they might have to catch them. This could take a while. Don’t give up hope just yet xxxx
